Is a Standard Map 100*50 eg 5,000 tiles If so why does it say 100*100 ?

It is because the map is on the diagonal. So squares are not beside each other, but on their edges. If you take a look at the editor & turn the grid co-ordinates on, you will see that not every row goes down to 100.
If you wanted to see the map where the tiles were not on the diagonal, the whole map would be a diagonal and there would be a hundred rows of 50.
