Marathon does not work with the default age duration it seems

If you start a game on Marathon speed without going into advanced options and changing the ages duration, your ages will be over before you can research more than three or four technologies and build about that many things.

Not sure if the longer age is enough of a difference to offset.

Seems like Marathon speed wasn't tested at all.

I'm curious how this happens. Isn't age progress tied to the actions of the players? Someone is doing something to advance the age.

I've never played on anything but standard speed. How were the ages handled in Civ 6 (with expansions that added golden/dark ages). Was it strictly by number of turns?

They may just not have increased the "Age Threshold" by the same factor that they increased the other costs (or they increased the Age completion amounts too much)... switched % for actual multiplier so someone hits the firs Legacy point and bam... Age is over (instead of 2.5% of the Age its 2.5 of the Age)

Player progress but also a clock. Legacy progress speeds it up.

Just made a comment then came across this post. Glad it's not just me.

No one had even reached a single legacy milestone, gotten to end of the civic or tech tree, and maybe 1 or 2 wonders got built by the time the crisis started at turn 148. Also of note, I did select "long" ages as well.

Hopefully it's just numbers that need changed and this can be fixed in a few days.

Saw a post on Reddit that someone reached Modern Age in 5 hours of playtime in Marathon - which leads me to think that there's something flat out bugged about era progression on that speed.

After playing normal age length on epic speed up to the modern age for my first game... Yeah I need marathon and long age badly, hopefully they fix marathon soon since its seemingly broken on all age lengths. For anyone curious epic speed does work as intended.

Played Marathon speed, standard map, with 7 civilizations, at governor difficulty

It increases the number of production turn cycle. Which equates to same in the end. Only able to complete 25% or less for science and culture.

I agree that Marathon is basically unplayable now. The Age meter reaches the end before you or the AI are able to do much of anything, because everything costs so much, so you just click next turn a bunch. But each turn adds to the Age meter, so it ends up reaching the end of the Age before you're able to build a wonder, more than couple cities, or suzerain an IP.

Apparently the fix will be to remove the 3x multiplier being applied to the age meter. Seems simple enough to be in the 1.1 update, I'd think.

Here I am six hours in and just hitting exploration age. I can't imagine it taking triple that amount of time. You marathoners are a dedicated bunch!
