My dad is from Iran so this issue is particularly important to me. Me and my dad's side of the family hate the regime. Iran has had mass protests before but this one is particularly big. I have had my hopes up before that things would change and those hopes were crushed. Because of this, I don't have my hopes up if I'm being honest but at the same time I'm paying close attention to the situation. The Iranian government has turned off internet access to the country because of the protests.

Same here, Iranians living in Belgium are unable to contact family members there :
The article is in Dutch but it shouldn't be too difficult to translate using any engine..
"I've barely slept. It's a complete blackout. There's no internet, so we have no news. When something like this happens, mass murders usually follow."

If part of the army is not involved with the protesters there is never chance of success, unless external intervention.

Obviously, I don't know as much as someone who lives there, but I can see possibly some of the army simply staying at home because they are too afraid to take sides.

it all depends on whether the West can arrange its proxies this time . Like Kurds and jihadists are fighting again , New Turkey whining no doubt . If the line up is complete there will be foreign intervention . If not , this is like a seasonal thing in Iran these years .

Success without foreign intervention is possible... as has been said by someone else a lot of that would come down to what the military does.

Wasn’t our fault the rial lost half its value this year or that they’re running out of water because they built a freshwater dam on a salt bed.

foreign intervention WILL happen if the Islamic Republic things is sure to fall . Nobody in power or whatnot in the West wants an affluent and free Iran . Shah ? Uhm , right ...

Well, that is not true. If a new regime is on good terms with Western countries, Western countries won't sanction the new government. Without sanctions, that would obviously help the economy.

While I am against US military intervention in Iran, I can name countries that got out of our bad books. Japan, Italy, Germany, England, Korea (the south part at least), possibly other examples

They're countries that were enemies of the US that later on had a good relationship, and those countries are better off now. I didn't say I want America to occupy Iran... I don't even want airstrikes.

with the America in the state it is , an Iran in peace will be never on good terms with Western countries . This is a crusade and people must die . A lot of people must die . Just the doubt who must die first . Us or Iranians ?

Things appear to be escalating in Iran.

There have been protests before, but the problems like water, currency, and energy seem much greater than usual.

Nothing is more important than the water issue I think.

Ideally Iranians will take care of it with only a nudge from USA if that. No bombing.

Has a whiff of regime collapse.

Anyone heard anything about equipment being sent to ME and gold reserves flown to Russia?
