A friend and I both purchased this and the sound is all screwed up in movies only. It cuts in and out in wonder movies, beginning movies, ending movies. It's so friggin annoying you cant enjoy the wonder movies AT ALL.

Me too. I thought at first it was my computer, but apparantely it isn't. In the readme file, it says to switch to the MILES Fast 2D Driver. What does that mean?!?!

I think we need more info on what operating systems and sound cards etc. you're using.

    Go to Start -> Run
    type 'dxdiag'
Once it's finished collecting info, press 'Save all information', and save it as a .txt file.

Then open the txt file, and copy the contents in here.

I have the same problem with sound cutting out in the wonder movies. The opening movie worked fine though, and I have not had any other problems in the game yet.

My sound goes in and out during the video clips and the game graphics are slightly laggy when moving units or zooming in on a wonder being built.

    P4 1.6 Ghz
    64 meg GeForce3
    1 gig Ram.

Not a super old PC but it played Doom alright. Even after adjusting the settings still no luck.

    Similar problem here...

Everything works except the sound cuts in and out during the opening movie and wonder movies (haven't seen any other movies yet)

I'm using a SoundBlaster Live. I tried to download new drivers, but it said "can't find a Soundbalster on your machine"

I have an SB Live! too, and have this problem. Sound cuts in and out on the wonder movies. Extremely irritating, but otherwise game is fine (I think -- music seems to vary in the main interface a lot depending on view distance? You need to be close to your civ to hear everyone playing music there?!).

    Athlon XP 2500+
    512MB RAM
    SB Live!
    Radeon 9600XT 128MB RAM

    Soundblaster driver version:

    Provider: Creative
    Date: 24/07/2002
    Version: 5.12.2.252

It is a Microsoft approved driver.

This probably relates to it being such an old card.

Same Problem for me also, average computer, and using SB live 5.1 card. All sounds seem ok except for cutting in and out of sound on all movies ingame.

Well, I think we've found the point of commonality... I have an SBLive, and am having the same problem... Unsure of the driver version, but other games such as Doom3 have no problems with it...

Didn't check the readme (Documentation? We don' need no steenkeeng documentation!), I'll have to check it later...

Overall, though, at least this problem is more of an irritant than a show-stopper... Thank goodness, I didn't get an ATI video card... Those poor guys are having the real problems...

I have the same issue, although only for the opening video so far. The religion/wonder movies that I've seen so far have all worked. I've had no problems at all in gameplay.

For a while I thought it could be a video issue, since the animation had a barely perceptable pause with each skip in the audio. But seeing the much-faster cards some of you here have, I'm starting to doubt that theory.

    2.0ghz
    512 RAM
64MB GeForce3 ti 200 (driver updated for nVidia yesteray)
SB Live! (driver updated from Creative yesterday)

    Same problem.
My intro movie worked fine. All of the "religion" movie/sound bits work fine.
The wonder movies cut in and out like everyone else though.

yah, you're certainly not alone. another thread posted suggesting scaling back your sound accelerator in dxdiag (to NO accel). this seemed to work for me some, but my problem is that i play fairly smoothly for about 2-4 minutes, then it bogs down again.

the good/bad news is i did upgrade my video card to GeForce fx5200, which at least solved the chesire cat problem. BUT...the game runs totally choppy now...and that's the NEXT problem i'm trying to solve.

allow me this moment to vent a little bit since i've yet to play more than 10 minutes of this game. it may very well be the greatest civ yet, and maybe a game i'll come to love, but right now, i'd gladly take my $50 back and never play this...ever. it's quite possibly the most frustrating comp game experience i've ever had. and games shouldn't be frustrating. i hope someone is losing sleep over this at firaxis.

    Hmm....
I just played about 1.5 hrs of an epic game. No problems.:woohoo:
Earlier, I was playing the tutorial. Could that have made a difference?
Gotta say - its a fun game, when everything works.

I finally got into playing the game yesterday and all of the movies work excpt the introductory one. The wonder movies have a few glitches, but not major sound skips!!!

Sound is skipping in intro and wonder movies for me too. The rest of the game is fine except for that problem. And even though I know that I will want to turn the movies off at some point, I would like to experience them first!

Here's mine! Problems w/ sound on the Wonder animations only, for the most part. Even intro movies works fine. Heh...I remember having identical issues like this w/ Civ 2, if memory serves.
