Does anyone have the music from the first part of MOO? Or know how to extract it from the game files?
I've been trying now to get it for a long time. The best I've come up with is this page:
http://www.geocities.com/ace_mcjack/MIDI/midi.html
I thought it was the end of my painfull search, but it obviously lacks some of the tunes. For example there are no races themes
[and that would include a tune for every of the races for: negotations; negotiations that went bad; fading out short when
exitng the negotians panel and returning to the "races" screen]. And that is what I can recall from my head, because it's been a
while since I've been able to play with music
So, here are some other things that I've tried:
1] Visiting page of the composer
www.mobygames.com/developer/sheet/view/developerId,5529/ says the page would be www.davidgovett.com. Would- if only
the domain name was working
2] Contating the composer
There is a problem with that, because of above and because he is refered to sometimes as David and sometimes as Dave. So
Googling him out is twice harder. I find only some bios of him, much like those on Mony Games. I've even found some science
/ artwork work of an astromer / publicist named Govett about... Orion [the Orion itself, not Master Of Orion the game]
3] Writing e-mails to people listed in contact sections of various Orion game oriented pages
Some of the emails don't even reach out those people because the pages are like discontinued years ago so I get them
returned as not delivered [I can only assume poeple are either dead or have moved on with there lives...]. Those few mails that
are replayed say they don't have it or offer the MOO II music instead. The rest of e-mails are propably lost as some sort of an
antispam collateral damage [and that includes the case of guy from www.geocities.com/ace_mcjack/MIDI/midi.html - no
answer from him on topic of how did he managed to get those MIDI files]
4] Using extracting programs
I didn't know any so I started looking for some, knowing I would need one specified as capable of handling LBX files
www.watto.org/extract/games.html
Should have worked [see supported games disclamer for details] but it didn't [huraayyy!]
www.volny.cz/nova-software
Shoudn't have worked at it didn't [double huraayyy!]
Propably there are many others, but I haven't found them
5] Checking out the normally usefull sites
http://downloads.khinsider.com
http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks.php
www.ocremix.org
No luck there [and no suprise either]
6] Searching p2p
Not even the relatively easy acquirable music from MOO II is accessible via eMule. There is no single shared file with "music"
or "score" in it's name. I'm not familiar with others p2p clients / networks
7] Checking out the Mac version
There is no music on Mac???: http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=523
Although it would be a propably another waste of times beacaues I would be eventually stucked again with LBX files or some
other type
8] Going to Orion and deafeating the Guardian
For now I lack some of the key technologies. Maybe in the year 2508, but not now
9] Checking out forums
That's whay I'm here for. I've already asked on the-biggest-polish-old-games-oriented usenet newsgroup. Now I'm seeking
help in the english speaking world
As must mention, as a last resort one can always record "what you hear" while playing the games with sound off. But it's a
lame sollutions and there are a few problems with that:
- you have to have music in game
- you can have unwanted interferes of some kind within the recordings that would remain there if not edited out
- you have to know what track is played when [and why] and get the game to play it [for example: stealing technology]
- you have to figure out where it's start looping itself [in main menu]
- you have to have a time, patient and skills to do it
And so here is the utlimate MOO challenge: get the community their music
And please don't kill me for violating any of your forum / MOO etiquette, I don't go to places like that if I absolutely don't have to and I just wan't some quick answers
