I'm playing on the 8/19 patch and an interesting situation came up that I thought I would share. I usually don't save scum but the autosave happened to be two turns before the result and the timeframe is so narrow I thought it would be fun to see if there was a way to make this work.

My capital is building Chichen Itza! I got a free great engineer from finishing Red Fort last turn and decided to see if I could snipe one more wonder to help get perma golden ages.

    Spoiler Mecca, turn 201 :

Looking around, I see that Poland (who I conveniently have a spy placed) has the relevant tech and is, in fact, also building that wonder.

Spoiler Poland build order, turn 201 :

3 turns is a tall order. Can we do it? We have the gold, the hammers, and the chutzpah. Let's give it a shot.

Spoiler Production and worked tiles before investment, turn 201 :

    GE and dosh investment, go.

Spoiler The man for the job. 2x manufactories built + 24 pop :

Spoiler And it's done! So close. Mecca post GE/investment, turn 201 :

We did it! 2 < 3, right? Smash that next turn button.

Spoiler Poland build order, turn 202 :

Well damn. The AI is a cheating bastard Poland seems to have found some extra hammers. How are we doing?

Spoiler Mecca build order, turn 202 :

    Well that's disappointing. We're 17 hammers behind.

Is it possible to get this wonder? The way I see it, we would either have to get extra 17 :c5production: before turn 201 passes or force Poland to pause the wonder or somehow remove the extra :c5production: they got between 201 and 202.

I'm pretty sure I've exhausted all variables to try either of these two.

    For option A:
    • No trade units refresh between T200 and 202 (to send hammers to the capital)
    • All tiles with hammers are worked except for the village to the northeast. Working all those tiles and setting the rest of the pop to laborers gets the deficit down to 11 :c5production:.
    • No workers are nearby to chop forests. Even though Pyramids is owned, a worker bought on turn 201 cannot chop a forest in one turn.
    • Mecca gained a pop at the beginning of T201, giving a :c5production: bonus from the aqueduct. It won't grow again for 6 turns.
    • No ancient ruins are able to be explored between T200 and T202 (for a production boost or pop boost)
    For option B:
    • No one is willing to declare war on Poland, and Poland is not willing to declare war on anyone (including city states)
    • Trading all available luxuries and strategic resources for Poland's GPT doesn't help (not like Poland invested anyway so it shouldn't matter)
    • Declaring war on Poland (which wouldn't be worth it in the long run due to defensive pacts) doesn't help.
Anyone have any thoughts? I can give as many details as necessary about vassals, policies, religion, etc. I'm not saying there's a solution but it would be pretty neat if there was :goodjob:

I think you'd need to go back further and make the 11 hammers worth of changes sooner. :(

No great artist for a Golden Age possible? That's the only thing I could think of that you didn't exclude.

Edit: Can you declare war on someone to cancel your trade route to them (in turn 200), then send it to Mekka for production in 201?

What if you wait 1 or 2 turns before spending the gold & GE?

also, you can un-work tiles without hammer, laborers or other specialist have some production.

    do you have WLTKD?

Yes, I would also wait a few turns until you can finish with GE+gold in the same turn (T202 or T203). I think this could work.

Or use IGE if you think you really deserve this Wonder :D:king:

Not really helpful tbh,but I'll just give this up. You can still have permanent golden age with GArtists later, universal suffrage has 50% golden age length, and some additional GW theme (I had 5+ as far as I can remember). In my last America game, using a GArtist provides 44 GAge turns, without Chichen Itza.
But like what others commented, smart-bulbing GE could be helpful if you really wanted it.

This strikes me as the most likely solution as long as all your trade routes aren't internal. Only questions are the timing (I believe the trade unit will be available turn after you declare war but never paid attention if you get the yields starting the turn you pick the route) and if any of your secondary cities are capable of trading production.

Yep, this is the ballsiest answer... but autosave starts at the beginning of turn 201. Also, do trade units immediately get sent back when you DoW someone? How would they have a chance to be pillaged by the defender then?

Turns out I found a solution, DoWing Poland on turn 201 AND pillaging a nearby fishing boat will cause the capital to switch production to a Tercio and put the wonder on the stack. But it’s very, very much not worth it.

Maybe you could delete a trade route, purchase a new one, and start a new production trade route into your capital?

That could also work if you DoW someone and happened to have that trade route immediately captured.
