Does anyone keep this running during (singleplayer) Civ. Specifically, the ActiveShield protection?

With VS on i get noticeable (~30sec) end of turn lag--even on the opening move of a small size map. Without it, no lag at all!

Short of disabling internet and Virusscan, is there any way to set up an exception for CIV?

just wondering...i assume not.

I dont know MacFee - not used it (use Nortons.....I know lol but someone gotta boast their earnings :) But ..

If its pure anti-V (the ActiveShield) and you have 'low spec hardware' (enter a behemouth ....lol) its not impossible that the resources taken up by it are tipping Civ over the edge, particularly if on low RAM/below spec RAM.

It looks like turning it off gives more room for Civ to move, and runs. If, big if there, thats the case either there is a clash in memory with a background programme (try turning em off in MSconfig - make sure you check mark the hide MS services button) or the extra size / resources needed in V1.52 finally tipped it over, in which case maybe looking at more RAM - providing you have checked best graphics drivers/sound drivers etc etc to eliminate clashes.

Maybe you can set it to ignore Civ - dont know the package - but whats curious is why its happening. Lowish spec beastie probably low on memory, a behemouth probably driver/background clash. Wouldnt bet my pension on that, and not a direct answer to the question, but working checking out

(For sure if you not yet loaded Patch V1.52, do so, better memory managemet in Civ)

yeah, i'm 1.52, 1 Gigly RAM, GeForce 6600GT.

reason i'm curious is i've been running games with AV in background for a month now. but I noticed this particular lag issue only yesterday. msconfig services experimenting is what revealed the conflict. just seeing if anyone else has similar issues or if something happened to my computer recently.
