I have a question about Mechwarrior 3 (to continue my tradition of asking for help on horribly outdated games)

Someone who has experience with this game please help me.

When I am on a battlefield with lancemates, or allies, I can order my allies to attack or follow me and stuff like that. There is a command that tells the lancemate to attack my selected enemy.

My question is, what if I want my lancemate to attack one mech while I attack another, I have to select the enemy for it to attack, then tell it to "attack my selected enemy." Then when the ally begins to attack that mech, if I select another one to attack, will my lancemate continue attacking the one I told it to, or will it start to attack the one I changed to because I told it to "attack my selected enemy?"

I can't help either... But I love MW3!!!
I usually do everything myself on a battlefield - just don't amuse my allies with some orders ;)

If you do not give them orders, they just follow you. I think they automatically defend themselves if attacked.

Last night I experimented. I sent my one ally after enemy mech 2, while I went after enemy mech 1. The ally did so, but enemy 1 attacked it so it destroyed mech 1, then continued on to destroy mech 2. So I guess the answer to my question is it will do what i tell it, even if I then select another target. It will defend itself if attacked on the way, then continue on to the original mech I told it to attack, even when I select and target other mechs.
