since i rarely ever have a vassal state, i was wondering - can you still have trade routes with vassal states under mercantilism?

i guess i'm still trying to figure out if colonies are ever worth it...

Custom houses are Foreign trade, not Overrseas trade
(Over seas trade you can have with yourself... some use to all those one tile islands... settle one and ALL of your cities can get an overseas trade route with it)

Yeah exactly. Trade with vassals isn't foreign trade.

I guess that's how it is, but i don't remember in the moment a situation where one of my coastal cities would link a trade route to a vassal during FM.

Actually Vassals simply get a "Special exemption" from the Mercantilism rules.. Otherwise I think they count as Foreign Trade

Permanent Allies count as domestic Trade

Yes. Even though the Civilopedia entry for Custom Houses states that they get +100% Intercontinental Froeign Trade, you get the bonus on the same continent.

But vassals are permanent allies!

No they are not, "Permanent Allies" are on the same Team.. they share all the same Wonders, Techs, and share Victory.

[Actually that is one thing that I really would want, to allow Vassals to become Permanent Allies.. they currently can't... I thinlk to prevent them from becoming Permanent Allies with someone else]
