Mercenary System Suggestion

One of the most irritating points of the Mercenary system is often the Mercenaries spawn in completely random useless cities.

Basically Mercenaries should by default spawn in your capital city. Then you can pay an extra fee for them to spawn in any other city that is connected to your capitals trade network.

The fee should be relative to distance so the further away the city the larger the fee.

This would make mercenaries much more useful generally the reason to hire Mercenaries is because you need troops quick however they can appear any where.

Meaning quite often you dont bother.
 
Whenever I hire mercenaries, they often spawn in my most recently captured/founded city. Although I understand where you're going with that, trying to conquer France as Spain in the 16th century when your new mercenaries are in the recently captured Mexico City can be quite hard...

Especially when they can pull out new mercenary troops out of their sleeve without a sweat.
 
I agree, altougth it may be difficult to implement this.

At least, we should be able to know in which town the mercenaries will arrive.
One of the main default of the current system is that we don't know at all there the troops will arrive, whereas one of the main utility of mercenaries is urgency or quick military compaign.
 
Go into civ4/BtS/mods/RFC/assets/python/MercenaryUtils/MercnaryUtils

Here it's very straightforward and easy to edit stuff that you've suggested scu98rkr, just read the lines describing how to change every value and what it does. If you have any problems just post on this thread and I'll try and help.
