Merging with Better AI: txt_key_bug_... missing

@EmperorFool:

I've followed the instructions to install Better AI together with BUG 3.5 (the last option - BUG in CustomAssets and BetterAI as a mod) and now all the BUG text strings are missing (in the main interface and in the BUG options screen, too). As I understand it, it means that CIV running a standalone-installed BetterAI mod cannot find BUG mod's xml files with all the strings (although they're right there, automatically copied to Mods/Better BTS AI/Assets/XML/Text/)

What could be the cause of the problem?

P.S. I've an /altroot game folder installation (because CIV cannot handle localized "My Documents" path), which caused the no interface problem some time ago. As you may remember, I've copied the Config folder to my BTS install's Assets folder to solve it. Can this new bug be associated with /altroot, too?

I don't think /AltRoot is involved in this case since Civ finds those XML files--not BUG. The /AltRoot is only a problem for BUG finding its config XML files because it has to locate them itself.

You copied BUG's XML files to the BAI Assets folder? My understanding from the instructions is that all the BUG files should be left in place in the CustomAssets folder, and BAI's Python files should be moved to CustomAssets/Python/Contrib.

Even still, having the XML files in either or both places shouldn't interfere with Civ finding them. :( Is it only BUG whose text strings are messed up?

Oh, I'm terribly sorry. I've reinstalled both mods and now they work fine. It was most certainly some error of mine.

Hey, a question... Is there any reason why it shouldn't work with the new version of the BUG mod?

I believe the same instructions should work just fine with BUG Mod 3.6. Are you having trouble with it or just asking before upgrading (smart!)?

Asking first of course! Well, thank you. I will try it later and post the result!

DO NOT overcomplicate yourself... If you only want to use the "Better AI" component of BetterAI (which is great), just copy the gamecore.dll into your Assets folder (not in My Documents but in the games folder), and that is all you need.

I did that and it works perfectly.

Not with all functions it seems.

By the way, I still have to try it, just came back from a trip.

Most of Better AI is in the DLL but there are a few things that had to be changed in XML that you will miss if you only use the DLL. Also, it re-enables the GLANCE screen and that sort of thing.

BUG already enables the GLANCE screen. And the other Python part of Better AI is AI AutoPlay. I don't think there are other Python changes, so you should be safe to just copy over the XML and DLL. I don't know what's in the XML; I'm just going off what PoM said.

Actually there is some python stuff in Better AI. This includes the AI Autoplay feature (optional), a couple of interface tweaks like the Exotic Foreign Advisior (optional) and a few other things I'm not familiar with.

You'd have to ask jdog or Yakk if you wanted to know exactly what is in what files.
