What civs were you using and how did you win (well, other than "sacrificed people.")?

I had a Maya win after playing the scenario maybe half the way through on Monarch.

:)

I played single player as the Inca on emperor and got a 2,000 culture limit victory from my capital in 1410 AD with a score of 2400.

The agricultural trait along with the maize bonus gave insane amounts of food. My biggest problem early on was popping out enough settlers/workers and managing growth and happiness improvements to avoid perpetual overpopulation/disorder. But, that's a problem I can learn to live with. ;)

With a good base of production established, I turned my attention to the my friendly, unsuspecting, and numerically inferior neighbors to the North, the Moche. Refraining from destroying too many cities left the Moche enough production to produce a steady stream of units to be converted to enslaved workers by my Chasqui Scouts. Eventually, I finished off the Moche and then wiped out the Toltecs, who were in Central American between me and the Mayans. The Chasqui aren't overpowering on offense and are vulnerable to counter attack, but attacking with endless waves of Scouts produced several dozen enslaved workers. By ~1250, I had enough to sacrifice and reach the one city culture limit.

Overall, I found the scenario to be interesting and worker enslavement ability to be a hoot and a holler. Also, the kick ass Silent Hunters (5/3/2, stealth attack) force a real change in tactics, as offensive units with low defense need to be protected behind defensive units and saved for counter attack. In fact, defense becomes problematic with the Silent Hunters around, so I favor nonstop attack.

The downside was that the starting position of the Inca is so isolated from the Maya and Aztec that I never had a chance to interact with these civs until late in the game, when it was pretty much decided. Abusing the minor tribes wasn't challenging, and I also accidentally almost got a domination victory just trying to get through the Moche and Toltecs to get to the "real" opponents. I am usually challenged on emperor, but I found this scenario to be too easy.

I'm curious the Maya and Aztecs provides a more interesting starting position???

Cultural city win as Maya. Their starting position is amazing, and you have a one tile away access to stone. I've never been that happy to have a capital lost in the middle of a jungle. As soon as i got a good stack of UU i erased the Olmeque and then the Tolteque (for some reasons they are really slow to expand). I then bottlenecked the Inca and Moche, fully turning on the Aztec. That prick built cities all the way up the the top of the map, he then took one back but i never saw his units coming. It's weird as i was looking for them, but they sneaked along the top border east to the floodplain area. One in one Maya got a really good start, I played it on regent and never saw such passivity in IA before. I might have been too fast, but there is place for 4 settler factories around the capital. I didn't even bother to enslave barbs, there wasn't that many place for them to grow up. :D
I've got a friend starting as the Aztec and he got very passive neighbours too, but i found the Azt starting position cheap after having played the Maya. I'll try both Azt and Inca soon, i love to make my Gods happy. Buahahaha!

You hit the nail. And the problem is, if you move up one or two levels, you don't have a chance for the Wonders, not to speak of successful war against the big Civs...
Also, I don't think the AI gets the concept of sacrificing right - collect slaves until everything is improved, and then kill 20+ in the last turn...

Aztecs are as isolated as Incas; Mayans are a little better, but this mainly means you have 2 minor tribes for sacrificing duty.

I got a single city cultural win using the Inca. I Built a big army of Chasqui Scouts and camped out in central america on a choke point of mountains, just north of what is now Panama.

Whenever a rival civ would move to settle, I'd nab the settler and try to enslave the defending unit. I also farmed my local weak neighbor as much as I could for slaves before taking their last city.

Cultural domination as Aztecs- with two more turns it would've been domination. (border expanding, I was at 34% when Tenochtitlan went over the cultural limit)

Cultural as Maya on Monarch... easily. I stomped the two minor tribes next door, leaving me with borders up against the Aztecs in the west/northwest and the red guys (minor tribe near the Inca) in the south (I secured panama, built 2 forts, and stuck several units down there). Built most of the wonders.

The Aztecs ended up attacking me towards the end, and it was actually getting pretty ugly, with them pumping out those 5/3/2 units (I was building them too, but I wasn't devoting my whole civ to it). I took two cities and then was barely holding the line when I won via culture.

It seems that getting enough enslaved workers for a one city cultural victory from 1 or 2 minor tribes is too easy for most players in this scenario. But, the premise of the scenario still seems fun. One solution might be to bump up one or two levels from your usual level.

Alternatively, has anyone been able to get an overall cultural limit victory? I think you'd have to get 7,000 culture AND have more than double the culture of the next highest civ. This seems more challenging and interesting, because minimizing the culture of your main rival would be key to keeping your own culture goal reasonable. Thus, farming your minor neighbors for enslaved workers would probably not be enough to win. Instead, you might need to thwart your main rival by allying with their enemies, supporting/protecting minor tribes near them, developing your navy so you could "manage" :devil2: their culture producing cities directly, etc.

Could be fun.

Also, how does this scenario work out for multiplayer?

I played as the Maya on Chieftan (I know I'm a wuss, so shut up) and got a one city cultural victory in my capital.
