Para hispano hablantes mirar segundo post.

First of all I'd like to say hello to everyone. This is my first post in this forum.

Although I've been reading the forum for a long time (and long before Rife came out I followed the FFH2 and FF forums), I had never decided to actively join the community. Thanks to your work (and the work of the rest of the team) I have had hundreds of hours of fun and that has made me an unconditional fan of Rife. But as I've already said I had never taken the step of becoming an active participant in the forum, but I want that to change.

I request permission to open a sub-forum in which the Spanish language can be used freely. Here's why: Looking for FFH2 or Rife in Spanish speaking forums I have worriedly noticed that in the few places where they are mentioned, people comment that they stop playing because of the language (In Spain lots of people don't have a good enough level of English) and of course, a game like Rife, with so many unique characteristics (promotions, abilities, spells, etc...) is very complicated to play for those who are not fluent in English. That's why I'm asking to open a sub-forum for these people, where they can express themselves freely in their own language, to be able to solve the doubts about the game they may have and be able to explain to them in Spanish everything possible about installation, updates, sub-mods, configuration and things like that that take them a huge effort to look for and understand in English.

In translating Rife in to Spanish and it's already very advanced, this will encourage them to play the mod since they'll be better able to manage playing the game. I have also translated the sub-mods that are compatible with Rife 1.20 so that they can use them if they please to (and if I've got permission of their creators to publish them).
I'll update this translation to future versions of Rife.

I have also updates Iceciro's mod Fall to Pieces to Rife 1.20 that includes both a multi-player version with some changes (more factions blocked to avoid OSSs and CTDs that are already known in the forum, a new version of OSSBreak, updated to Rife 1.20 and the already compatible ThousandFails) and a single-player version with a module, BlockFactionsSP that blocks several factions to avoid CTDs that are known in this version. They all have readmes in English and Spanish as well as a help section with all the advice given in the forum put together and what my own experience has proven to me that helps to avoid CTDs and OSSs or to solve them once they have happened

Using these updated modules I don't suffer any unsolvable CTD ( I really hardly ever have any CTDs) and in multi-player games, since I use them, I have never had an OSS.

Obviously, if anyone finds an error in these modules I'd like them to let me know to solve it and better them.

My only intention is to help everyone with these modules, and particularly, Spanish speakers who have problems with English. I don't know how many Spanish speakers regularly visit this forum, nor if this initiative will be successful (or will just be forgotten) but after so many good things I got from this forum I also wanted to do my share. I'm going to publicize Rife in all the forums in which I take part to get new players for this great mod because I think that it's a shame that language is a barrier that doesn't allow lots of people to enjoy it.

Sorry for going on for so long but I like to ask for permission to avoid possible problems.

Lots of thanks to everyone.

I don't mind at all if you open a spanish forum (presuming you get the Moderator's permission, but that part isn't hard). In fact, it would be a good thing... And if you're translating the game, feel free to do so! I'll likely end up merging your translations. ;)

Edit: To be clear; Translations have always been something I'd like to be able to do eventually, but even though I took Spanish for two years in school I honestly have forgotten all of it. A German translation would be a bit easier for me, even though I don't actually speak it; My mother is German, and could assist me.

I didn't add localization support to my map script because that would require the distribution of a second file containing the text info and most people would dump that into the wrong folder.

So I guess my question for you is, are the map options understandable? If not, the best option would be to come up with descriptive options that are easier to understand without being fluent in English while not actually translating them.

I imagine that if you can provide translations of the base FfH text files, these would be of immense use in the main mod too.

Thanks, Valkrionn for your support to the translation project, and also for your offer of maybe using it in the mod in the future. I'll try to make the translation worthy of such an honor.

Seven05, it would be really great if all the options of ErebusContinents Could be translated (specially because it's a map that I use with no kinds of problems and it's the one that I advice to be used in the readmes of the anti-OSS and CTD mods). Also, this would make the translation really complete, and that would be fantastic. I'll admit that, according to my point of view, these options to configure the map are really comprehensible and self-explanatory, but if you sent me a file I's happily translate it.

If you don't want to maintain two versions of ErebusContinents but send me the file (If you don't mind) I'd include it in the Spanish translation of the game, so the Spanish speaking gamers could use it. But I don't want to burden you with work you don't want to do, so thanks you very much for your offer.

There are already several other people of other forums where I am that have download the translation and installed Rife so I'll add a few threads to explain to them how to install and use Rife, as well as explaining anything they want to know about the game. I hope you don't mind my creating a few Spanish speaking threads, until I start seeing some real interest from the spanish speaking community, I don't think I'll create that Spanish speaking sub-forum that I commented on my first post.

Jabie, the translation is free to use, so you can use it.

Thank you all very much for your answers, I'm delighted to be cooperating in this forum.

But I really don't want to maintain two versions :)

If that's the only objection it would be easy to have the translator check for the existence of one of your new text keys; and if it doesn't exist, replace it with a private translator that you include in the module.

Come to think of it, if a text key isn't found, the standard translator just spits it back unchanged. Couldn't you simply wrap a translate call around your current strings? If they aren't found there is no change and I don't think the text keys must be in capital letters and start with "TXT_KEY_".

Never messed around with it much to be honest, I had localization in my first map script since I released it with a full mod.

The actual text to translate is all in one place so it's easy to find, so if you want to maintain a Spanish version you're certainly welcome to. I don't change map option text very often :)
