What are your thoughts on this... I regret to say this.... human?

If you don't know who he is, he's a radio show host that is clearly homphobic, xenophobic, racist, immature, and just plain insane. He even attempted to SUE several websites that critisize his racist comments, calling them anti-american, also saying that they "can't ruin his career".

Recently he's been fired from MSNBC for telling a phone caller on his TV show to "get AIDS and die".

What do you think of him?

Could you provide a link of some kind to something about him to provide context?
And are there any balanced, normal radio hosts anywhere? :ack:

I never watched his show or listened to him on the radio, but he sounds like a complete moron.

Fourth option for me. He has a right to his opinions and to spread them, as long as he doesn't hurt anyone; I'm a supporter of the first amendment.

From what I can surmise from those offered websites, Mr. Savage seems to be a little ill tempered and discourteous. But apart from that, I have no problem with him.

His philosephies and ideals scare me. But he still has the right to spout out that garbage.

 http://www.eastcoastbob.com/

EDIT: For the ones who doesnt understand what I ment by posting the URL, "East Coast Bob" clames that he were the one who called in to the show and clamed that he was Gay (So you're one of those sodomists. Are you a sodomite?" Savage asked. Bob replied: "Yes, I am." "Oh, you're one of the sodomites," Savage said. "You should only get AIDS and die, you pig. How's that? Why don't you see if you can sue me, you pig. You got nothing better than to put me down, you piece of garbage. You have got nothing to do today, go eat a sausage and choke on it.")

The clip is on his site...

He's a ranting lunatic. Don't listen to him.

My math teacher told us to watch him a while back (in fact I made a thread about it). I watched a little bit of his show this week, its rubbish.

EDIT: He's fired from MSNBC? I guess I saw his last show then! Too bad I missed the part about "get AIDS and die", I would have been rolling on the floor hearing a real talk show host say that.

He's worthy of an SNL skit. :p

I saw the part where he said that. He said some other insulting things to the caller.

What did the caller say to get him all upset?

"Hi Michael. I'm gay and..."(cutoff)(Being hate rant)

The man can't take any dissent from his opinion he explodes. He is no more rascist ect. than most of the talking heads, just a little more honest and less tactful.

rascist? a bigot? You clearly dont know Michael Savage. Please read up on him, instead of taking this situation at face value and blowing it out of proportion.

He has the personality that he attacks back, if he's insulted he will strike back, he wont ignore the person. I doubt, very much, that he wanted him to die of AIDS. Come on.

I DO think he got the crappy end of the stick with this situation, he thought he was off the air and was attacking a agitator he was attacking him, but i do think MSNBC did the right thing in firing him, but please dont take this at face value.

.

He said, and i quote: "You should only get AIDS and die, you pig."

I disagree with his ideas and philosophies but I don't necessarily think he should be taken off the air. Three words say it all: Freedom of Speech.

An important aspect of freedom of speech is its political connotations. I don't think there is anything constructive in wishing death to an anonymous man simply because of his sexual orientation add anything to a political debate. Freedom of speech is a protection from government prosecution, but it doesn't insulate you from the consequences others wish to impose on you as their freedom of reaction to your speech.

Well, as important as his comments were the fact that his ratings stink. Its the same thing as the Bill Maher syndrome. When you're not bringing in the revenue you're disposable, if you are you can get away with pretty much anything.

Very true Greadius. Which brings me to a point I was subtly trying to make in my previous statement, but failed to do so: If he has a show, then people have the option to watch it or not. He has his freedom of speech so he can say what he wants, and the viewer has the freedom to change the channel and make his ratings suffer thereby reducing the amount of advertisers for his show and thereby cutting off his funding and getting him out of that spot.

But of course, it's never as simple as that. I do agree with many people who have posted that his comments are rediculous. So this brings up a good point: Why does MSNBC keep him on the air? (that's a rhetorical question mind you ;) )

That doesn't matter. As a talk show host, you don't tell your viewers to die of AIDS, whether you mean it or not.

Reminds me of the Monty Python skit. "Don't kill the customers!"

I listen to the Don and Mike Show, which is the show the caller mentioned during the incident. They were playing the clip over and over on today's show. Don and Mike often encourage people to make prank calls to other DJs and say things like "Don and Mike says that you suck!" or something similar. They've done it to people such as Opie and Anthony and Bill O'Reilly. I don't know why he assumed that this guy was a homosexual. It's pretty damn funny to listen to though.
