The hobbits leader should be perrigin took. But, that is getting off topic. We are working on the techs right now, we will decide the rest of the stuff afterwards. The civs are coming up next.

So I was watching the 2nd movie again when I get an idea.

That Balrog dude, it would be stupid to have civs build him but a shame not to have him at all, right? Wasn't he on some large dwarven mine complex type thing. What if you made a really valuable resource called "name of those mines" and put it wherever the hell it is, and then made the Balrog immobile and put it on top. It would encourage the AI (and maybe human player too) to go after the dwarven mines/Balrog.

Maybe if it was near the dwarves, it would encourage them to build a city there ("rebuilding" that city). Make sure that the terrain the Balrog/Resource is on is a hill, and that everything around it is mountains. But have the mountains immediatly around it have valuable resources such as gems and gold, maybe some food to keep the city alive.

Just a quick idea.

But Balrogs were a unit under Morgoth. Most of them died in the last battles after the Valar came. But some survived. Our only problem is we have an era 4 unit in era 1. It would be the same, if you would be allowed to buil tanks in the ancient. Or is it perhaps not such a big problem? If they cost as much as a tank in the ancients, you will not be able to build many of them. Only a few and production in the cities you will build them is blockaded for several turns (~30?). Perhaps you are only allowed to build them up to a certain point, the end of era one for example. Then you can finish the units you´re building, but no more can be produced, if this is possible.
Or a wonder, only available for mordor, makes 10 Balrogs, but no more can be made. This doesn´t exclude the possibility of finding barbaric Blarogs at certain places, like Moria.

ignore this, double post.

Concentrate on techs. We will never finish the tech tree if we discuss other things.
Peregrin_Took, look at your PMs.
About the techs, now that we have some techs that we agree on, maybe we should categorize them in eras. That way we can start to work on tech tree.
About the Mithril mine, I have an idea, but this will take me some time, I'll have to start work all over again.

About the mithril Mine\balrog I think the best and coolest way would be to make the mithril mine replace the nuclear plant so that the "nuclear meltdown" would be the balrog making havoc... This would simply be awsome... I realy dont see a better way to do this... It would make the game really interesting as well... I agree that we have to start organizising the techs now... Im blank at the moment for anything... I simnply dont have time for all this.. I will pop in now and then with some comentarries however...

Yes, we need to organise the techs. I think we have enough of them now, and we can create one while organizing if the need arises. Now, why not start by putting each tech in the right Era (i know most tech have an era defined but some say things like "3 or 4")?

leader figureheads:
I will be able to create leader figureheads for diplomacy. But, creating a different figurehead for each civilization would be unnesesarily time consuming and hard (Sauron). Instead in the diplomacy screen you could be talking to an "emissary". It also makes more sense, instantly travelling hundreds of miles to speak face to face with another leader. All of the emissaries will represent their culture here they are:
Elves: Elf
Mordor: Orc
Dwarves: Dwarf
Men: Man
Hobbits: Hobbit

I will make a head for these culture types. Civilizations will have to share figureheads (Rohan, Gondor)

Peregrin_Took - not sure you've seen it... you sound like not... there are already such leaderheads, made by several people for this mod.

Look at graphics forums. Sween32 created Sauron, Orc and Legolas. gael made Saruman. Kindred made a Dwarf.

Also I made several generic fantasy leaderheads, which you can check here ;)
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=57295&perpage=20&display=&pagenumber=5

Same for the units, tens of them are done already. I think it's just better idea for creators to concentrate on stuff that isn't done yet... for leaderheads, there is no Hobbit yet. Also an idea to share leaderheads is really bad if we have so much stuff made already by creators. I know it can take hours to get through the files forums, but have my word - a lot of this is already done, we weren't born yesterday ;) Maybe we should put up a sheet of which graphics are still missing?

I say no. It would go against the good old civ3 way. When you're playing on a world map as the chinese, it's kind of stupid to be able to talk to Elizabeth right away, but I mean, that's the way it is in the game. I think keeping with the speciffic leader leaderheads like Sauron or Peregrin Took, or whoever, would add more to the game because players who don't know much about LOTR could just go in and say "oh wow, cool, a Sauron leaderhead!" instead of "...who the hell is that... where's Sauron?"

OK list of animated leaderheads that are already done:

- Sauron (by sween32)
- LotR Orc (by sween32)
- LotR Elf aka movie-legolas (by sween32)
- Goblin (by Kinboat, not sure if needed in this mod?)
- Saruman (by gael)
- Dwarf1 (by Kindred)
- Dwarf2 (by me)
- High Elf (by me)

human leaderheads:
- check out my karl-franz leaderhead (attached) - it looks quite close to Thoeden (EDIT: I can mess with him a bit, ie. change hair color, then put Edoras in the background, if there is need...)
- utahjazz generic leaderheads may come handy, as they do not bear that civ3-memories - ie. "Stephan" could be used for Gondor.

STILL MISSING: a hobbit and all that human leaderheads.

Thanks, I did not know that there were already so many figureheads. Since there is not a hobbit one I will start working on one he will look a little like Pippin. It seems that there are not enough icons for hobbits on the unit list. I will try to make some of the hobbit units. Also, I will try to make a hobbit cavalry riding a pony. I will let you guys do the statistics, but I will do the art. Another thing I will do is make all the hobbit city improvements. Most will be a hole in the ground, but the barracks will have a training yard, the smithy will have smoke stacks, etc. I will post them ASAP.

I will not get involved in the tech tree debate, I will just do art, mainly hobbit art for the city view, units, diplomacy, and civilopedia.

If you guys need me to make art for any other city improvements for the civilopedia and city view just tell me. Please give me a brief description and if possible tell me where I can find a picture on the web.

I can also do tech icons

Just request what you need

aaminion00: Karl-Franz is the Emperor of "The Empire" in Warhammer series, though there are no real sources how he should look, except small miniature on griffon. It's more of a generic bearded-king-in-oversized-armor.

Peregrin_Took: hobbit stuff is most wanted and pony cavalry is a nice idea :)

BAH! it took me awhile to read through this...

I got a new comp and will be getting Maya 3D soon so then i will be getting into the unit creation abit...

Welcome Pippin!

*Ponders if PC has an overview ready*

Anyway good ideas for the techs! But now we need to start focusing on the tree!

I've been wanting to make a few LOTR units myself. I made a model for a soldier of Gondor--based on images from the movies. I'd also like to attempt other units, perhaps of the "evil" men. I have a couple of questions for this unit first though.

Gondor_Early_Preview.gif

Celeborn, since this seems to be "your" scenerio . . .

1. Would you use this unit?

2. If so, does he need civ-specific coloring? Suggestions?

3. I don't remember seeing a Gondor shield. Does he need a shield? Markings for the shield?

4. What would be the best name for him.

It's not MY mod as such. I am just the instigator :D

Nice unit by the way... I think it could be used for a gondor sowrdsman but lets get the others opinions as well

Bad Cop: Hey guys, you know, even though you have some new cool lotr-related graphic or something, you don't necessarily have to post it here. You can post "new lotr thingy"-thread, and just give us a link. Especially the graphics would maybe need it's own threads so people can comment enough, while not completely derailing the "main" thread. ;)
Good Cop: Great guys! They look awsome. :)
utah: looks cool. I don't really know why you say "I will stop making units", and always (up to date, knock on wood) return after two days with a bunch of kick-ass units. ;) A good Gondor shield would be the White Tree on a black shield. I think he should have a black *whatever the name is, an armless cloth on your upper body*. I think he should have at least some civ colors, as he could be used in a bunch of other fantasy mods. This would be the Tower Guard. And a great looking guard to boot. :D

embryodead: Karl Franz would make a good Theoden. I think he could have smaller armor though.

Bad Cop, again: If you guys want more units than three I'd like you to give me and PCH a bit more time for the techs. :) We had just started on the unit techs when he went to Kansas.
Please give us a few seconds more. :D The important thing isn't that the mod gets finished soon, it is that the mod gets great.

I think the big armor just adds to the cartoonish feel of the leaderheads.

Well, I know I always do that. See, I like to make the units, but I go through lapses where I don't have anything that I want to make. But, usually, something new will pop up. After The Two Towers came out on DVD, I watched it again and decided that I'd like to make some LOTR units. So, I'm going to. :)

I did go back and check in the movie, and I did see the Gondor shields with the white tree on them. I'll add one to our guy here.

I will start new threads for new grpahics in the future, sorry.
