mrtn: Keep the City Walls nice and early! The two earliest above-ground cities in ME, Brithrombar and Eglarest, were walled from the beginning. True they were Elvish, but AFAIK, almost all cities in ME had walls when they were first built.

Hello guys, My brain is in overload at the moment since i just spent the last 3 days reading all the threads on this mod! :mwaha: So far this mod looks more than I thought anyone could do with a ME mod. :worship: Let me know if you guys have discussed this, since it's hard to recall everything I read, what about an Ent civ? They played an important part in saving Rohan from Isengard. I saw the talk on the Eagles, but if anyone mentioned Ents I missed it.

Three days! :)
Well, I believe the idea was to make a ‘gaia civ’(eagles\Ents) that would be permanently at war with the evil civs, such as Isengard. However, I believe the idea for this was simply to include it in the map&mod version. I don’t think adding the Ent would be a good idea, they are not really a civilization. It has been suggested before, but I for one, don’t see how it could work out. Perhaps if we made a non-playable-gaia civ for the random map version? How would we add them efficiently? It’s hard to say, but it may be possible.

It does indeed look more complex mrtn! As for walls coming later, this is debatable (Noldodan has a point), does anyone really get any use out of them as they are? It all really depends on when we make the ‘aqueduct’ equivalent available, imo. I think the place you have it now is good.

Hmmm. The Gaia thing sounds cool. It took me 3 days cause I had to work and  too, and eat. My opinion on the tech tree is: Leave the city walls at the beginning and move aqueduct to a later age and just change the town/city/metro sizes to allow larger towns before needing an aqueduct. For ex:TETurkistans world mods allows cities to get to a 12 or so before aquaducts. Is that possible for this mod?

:crazyeye: I need to sleep now. This was a mistake post. :suicide:

Just an idea from AlcTrv there. :scan: You could alter the tech Gunpowder (or make it) and call it Alchemy, maybe. This way you could allow Isengard to build a suicide bombard unit :nuke: (and make it specific to that civ only), maybe. Like the cruise missile idea mentioned before. Of course it would be fourth era. And as far as other civs go it could just be a gateway to other techs. It could be made really expensive but destructive as well.

Well, I'm back! 8 hour drive from Tahoe to Bakersfield but I made it. I'm too tired to comment right now, but I will tomorrow. I have one thing though. The resource list that is in the overview looks good to me. Good job :goodjob: on updating it while I was gone, PCH

It is unfortunate that most of my ME knowledge was learned from ICE's MERP. I think a version with several similiar civs can exist along with the other versions you are making like-

Good Men:
Gondor
Rohan
Arnor
Esgorath (this could also include Beorn and his peeps)

Bad Men:
Southrons (I've heard them called the Haradrim)
Easterlings
Corsairs

Evil:
Mordor
Isengard
Angmar

Demihuman:
Dwarves
Elves
Hobbits

But I do like the idea of fewer and more unique civs for multiplayer especially.

A few more ideas and questions...

1) Someone mentioned Wraith's or something before and I think that would be an awesome idea for Mordor. Unless you guys figured out how to make the Nazgul work.

2) I also think Rohan should be available. They could be similiar to Gondor except in later stages have superior mounted units.

I hope I'm not repeating things you guys already discussed.

3) Also, couldn't Oliphaunts be a strategic resource for Mumakil or do you plan to use another resource. Or even use Mumakil.

4) Is Isengard going to use men as well as orc? I thought I read somewhere that the Dunlendings kinda helped Saruman with harrassing Rohan.

5) I can see seperate empires for Dwarves and Elves. But I still want a multiplayer version that has fewer civs. But as more earlier post said, I want more civs for more single player games. The Locked Alliance would make that a really cool game.

6) If there is a Corsair civ (or if they're combined with Southrons) then would they get a superior ship in some way? Maybe not.

7) Any chance on a Dunaden Ranger unit? Maybe to replace the scout for Arnor and maybe Gondor? Or just a quick unit of some kind? Even more accurate a third age upgrade to scouts?

BTW anyone here ever heard of a mod for The Wheel of Time? :wallbash:

Nope, no Wheel of Time mod. No one's ever even tried, AFAIK. That makes me vaguely sad... And about your sig: I thing the better quote from LOC is when Bashere is talking about his former Marshal-General... " 'Mad as a hare... He once ordered a grove of trees cut down because they were looking at him. Then he insisted they be give proper burials, he gave the oratory. Do you know how long it takes to dig graves for twenty-three oak trees?' "

PS: Sorry for being monstrously off-topic. I couldn't resist.

I had forgotten that quote! Now I remember.
BTW: I mentioned stuff from TETurkistan.
I meant TETurkhan.

This may be reaching a bit, but could it be possible to instead of destroy barbarian encampments could capture them and they become colonies??

Sorry it took me so late, I'm not at home now so I don't know how often I'll post...
OK you convinced me about the worker actions, now about the dragon that PCHighway mentioned earlier, I could make him even better, but for what icon would you use it in civilopedia... a tech, maybe beastinery?

Welcome tjedge...

On a side note i might have some problems posting here for a while... the forum has gone extremely slowly for me for some unknown reason

Welcome tjedge1!
As you seem to have read all the threads (:crazyeye: ), you might have seen that this is no democracy, but rather an oligarchy. (this means the same in this case. :)) What I'm trying to say is that we try to keep the discussions fairly focused on the topic at hand. The tech tree, in this case. :)
AlcTrv: We remember, it's just that they are very late in the tech trees (about the last tech). Give me the tech trees for the first three eras, and I'll give you the alchemy tech. :p ;)

tjedge1: I think there are a WoT map somewhere.

@tjedge1: I noticed that you had posted on what civs you felt should be in. I'm not sure if you saw it but I mad city lists for many of the civs, and IIRC most of them were accepted (Except Valinor, which now makes sense to me). If you can come up with any city lists, feel free to post them. You also said that most of your knowledge of ME comes from a RPG. Just a little tip of friendly advice, don't rely on that too much. Your best sources areThe Encyclopedia of Arda (bookmark it) and Tolkien himself. Wait, one more thing, It's good to see some fresh blood in this little Oligarchy we have here.Welcome tjedge1.

@PCH: Dude, you forgot to put links to my city lists in the overview;). If I can figure out how, I will post links to them. Of course though, you could always do it if you feel up to it. It would be better though If you showed me how to link to specific posts. There is no need to clog up the thread, a PM would work. Eventually though I will try to get up a city list of every civ, along with Kings, title, great leaders, toggle flags, and all the other stuff for the civs. But, thats for later on when we have all of the civs decided upon.

I think Il make a proposal for a tech tree today ot tomorrow..
@mrtn: No offence but there is something about your tech tree I dont like.. cant put my finger on it tough.. Well, Ill make a suggestion soon..

About Tjedges questions:

1) That could work.. If C3C doesnt make a way for the nazguls to arive in the right time then normal wraiths could work..

2) I guess rohan will be one of the civs..

3) We wont use mumakil and I dont think it was 100% sure if we are using oliphaunts.. That will be playtested I guess...

4) I dont think this has been discussed but them using both would be the reasonable thing... altough orcs wouldnt come untill the third age I gues..

5) We would use severl dwarf and elf civs AFAIK. If u need fewer civs simply select fewer civs.. The ecsact civs arent reallt important now anyway...

6) Dont know.. the civs will be decided later I gues..

7) I do see rangers like strider beeing a really good but expensive scout units.. ofcourse it would have to be powerfull as well.. and have all terrains as roads..

About the mine: I agree that arial wiew are not so important but its nice to have but it shouldnt be a priority.. Civilopedia will never be a problem with this mod.. Well just use the encyclopedia of arda and other resources as well as our self.. I dont see the civilopedia as problem at all..

My apologies for being off topic. I just had a million questions after reading straight thru the thread. :whipped:
Hello to all. :wavey: I kinda rambled since my insomnia wouldn't let me sleep and I was really tired. (Hince 23 posts on my first day.):aargh:
I will stay on track.
I understand knowledge from an RPG is bad for the mod and I will look into the Encyclopedia you mentioned.
I will try not to clutter so much in the future.
As far as no Mumakil? OK that is cool since I don't recall them making much difference in the LoTR :goodjob:
I'm so excited someone with real knowledge of Tolkien is working on this! :rotfl:
