Ah, no, this is just to ride the wave of the new Civ7 details. People are hungry for 4X right now, and this is a way to lure them in.

I think the game is pretty good now after the balance patches. One of them changed where the AI settles cities and as a result the AI is a lot more aggressive early game.

Paradox maybe underestimated how important visuals are for 4x games and adjusts the price now with sales.
