...because if you kill a unit that has Hidden Nationality (as they almost all do), then your Mimic will pick up Hidden Nationality. And it will stomp all over your neighbors.

Nature's revolt doesn't actually work (at least that last time I tried that). It is because barbarians do not have the hidden nationality promotion, so when converted to animals those do not either. Animals that are spawned directly do, so you can steal it from them, like in highlands maps that have regions of bears.

Using nature's revolt with Mimics is still awesome though. You can easily steal promotions only available to heroes (strength I/II and defense I/II). If you manage to steal the first level it unlocks the second level for you. So you can end up with Mimics with +2 strength and +2 defense!!

mimics are awesome

On a related note, try fusing a hawk with a flesh golem. Allows it to fly :D

Thats epic. In m theorycraftnig I assumed that i'd need to capture griffons to ake my army complete. On a side note, if you graft the archmage into its own golem, can it support itself, or another flesh golem, (as a perm summon) since it now has the Body III promo? And can flesh golems gain their own promotions through exp? (if so, then grafting saverous and hemah into flesh golems would make for a WICKED super army) Amurite golem army here I come!

Flesh golems can't learn spell promotions. I tried, believe me.

they're direct combat units only. Incapable of any magic.

they can, however, be made vampires. although being golems, they get nothing from levelling up, so feasting is pointless.

you still have animals in your game by the time you reach iron?

A few Elephants wandering near my territory and a Bear that I found on an Island. I got lucky with an Engineer to bulb Bronze Working early, tech through Smelting and then break the Orb of Dead Researcher Guy to get a free Iron Working early.

...I actually like my neighbors, though, so I didn't want to declare on them. Instead, I'll just wander through their territory, taking promotions from units that I happen to see (especially priests/wizards)

If Svartalfar have not used their world spell early, that's plenty of nice hidden nationality delivery chicks.
