Ming's gone...

Chris Huhne has got to be the favourite really. He's probably te best politician around when it comes to understanding of the environment, and he's very 'presentable'....I think the Lib Dems will be able to sell him very well.

Does anyone else think this is awful news for the Tories? I mean, this personality description seems pretty damn similiar to Cameron to me. 'presentable' and 'understanding of the enviroment' probably including 'nice' and definitably including the ability to be 'sold' to the nation. Spitting Image stuff, especially compared with Gordon Browns quite distinct 'personality'.

So basically what we've got is Camerons vote being split into two by a similiar Lib Dem candidate whilst Gordon Brown remains largely untouched.

Indeed, first against the wall when the revolution comes!

Nah, i probably die of shock!

Mark Oaten for Lib Dem leader! Rent-boys to drive down house price increases, help young buyers onto the property ladder!

Might be sooner than you think... theres a strange dark patch appearing on my wall that looks more and more like Che everyday... every time I look at it I get this great compulsion to do something... something for the people...

I just had a nasty idea.

This party was a merger between the SDP and the Liberals. David Steel was good if you remember; still is. Some of the Lib Dems are therefore just partisan anti-Tory. Ming went shortly after the Tories revived in the polls. Maybe they'll find a leader that will split Cameron's vote and ensure that 'new' Labour stay in office? Maybe there's been a deal whereby some Lib Dems will take cabinet posts? I foresee the LD's choosing a leader that looks a bit like David Cameron....

Maybe this stinks

Probably a good time to get life insurance then :D

Inded, that I was getting at, plus the thing is that Huhne has always been like this and has the substance, policies and the liberal idealogy to go with it, whereas Cameron lacks all of this and struggles against the old guard in his party.

I think Huhne could steal pleanty of Labour votes as well given his buissness/economic past.

Ah, a chance to mimic certain unspecified CFC members:

I never said that! show me where I said that, or admit you never had a case in the first place /moan about misrepresenting my post /smiley etc.

No he doesn't. I thought David Davis was the better choice. Baby Dave is all style no substance.

And Cameron fits that description because Bair did. Anyone else noticing a pattern here? ;)

Err, you think the LibDems might be actively planning to attract votes from the Tories ? It's a conspiracy!

An old school tory in old school tory clothes or an old school tory in a 'hoodie' heaven forfend the day that "better" can even enter into the same sentence as those two characters!

Ming was just ...not a leader. Leaders, particularly Lim Dem ones, need to make an impression, Chris Hunhe would just vanish into the background at PMQs and the Libs would just be taking another step backwards. Lembit would be a better choice IMO. But they should go back to Kennedy - he had some presence and is one of the most well known of the party leaders.

If Kennedy came back it would make the Lib Dems look like a one man party and damage their long term chances. Hopefully news coverage of the leadership contest will bring other Lib Dems into the media spotlight and familarise people with some more names and faces.

It's looking like a battle beween Chris Huhne and Nick Clegg at the moment.

And both have the gravitas and charisma of, erm, a dead caterpillar. The leader of a party can't merely be someone you really agree with. Both sound eerily similar to Gordon Brown and Dany Cameblair. If they're not careful, the Lib Dems are just going to cement a hammering in the polls.

The Lib Dems surely have someone they can wheel out with a dash of charisma. Matthew Taylor impressed me, although I gather he's stepping down. Any other ideas?
