Photos from the Miss Universe 2025 national costumes portion are out. I’m not into pageants at all but this portion is interesting.

I first posted about this subject back nearly 15 years ago

First, I’m confused about Miss Switzerland. This look has nothing to do with Switzerland, looks like Southeast Asia. The Miss Iraq look says nothing to me about Iraq either.

The Miss Rwanda outfit reminds me of those paper foldout decorations.

Miss Tanzania is different but the outfit looks like something Björk would wear.

You gotta feel sorry for these women wearing such heavy costumes. Feel free to post if you have a better link.

Most of them are exceptionally easy targets, although the Asian countries have a few advantages: Ms. Vietnam has the mobility with the bicycle, allowing her greater operational range, and Ms. Korea has I think a sword, so she can at least defend her immediate area.

Ms. Rwanda though does have some kind of composite armor, good for shielding against high explosive rounds.

They all seem to like wings to make them look as big as possible. Mostly they look like the MTXs one can buy for characters in games. Pageant stupidity takes another step towards irrelevance.

It was always a gathering of charlatans, but this seems to have been a particular eventful edition..
But things took a dramatic turn at a pre-pageant ceremony early this month, when Mr Nawat told off Miss Mexico, Fatima Bosch, in front of dozens of contestants for failing to post promotional content.

When she objected, Mr Nawat called security and threatened to disqualify those supporting her. Ms Bosch then left the room and others joined her in solidarity.

The Miss Universe Organisation condemned Mr Nawat's behaviour as "malicious" and Mr Rocha, speaking by video from Mexico, told his Thai business partner to just "stop".
Then during the preliminary evening gown round on Wednesday night, Miss Jamaica accidentally fell onstage and had to be rushed out of the theatre in a stretcher. She is recovering in hospital.

Miss Guyana seems to be role playing a daedric entity from The Elder Scrolls...neat!

Does Miss Universe outrank Miss World? And aren't there some others in the command chain, like Miss Galaxy?

There should be a Miss Local Group to act as a liaison between Miss Universe and Miss Galaxy. Miss World is starting to look like a lowly regional governor.

Miss supranacional!?
I wonder if the same people who work and participate in a pageant just go around the world or next street, like carnies and circus, set up multiple venues and their local living out of this?
Like "hey we finished with miss supranacional, let's go for a break?" and the other person is like "nah I have to go pick up the benches for miss global international"!

Miss Intercontinental has not been the same since the introduction of the multiple independent reentry vehicle, allowing for more potential entrants at a lower-scale cost.
