Hello,

I have done some analysis of the scenarios mentioned in the What scenarios would you like to see in Civ7? thread. I counted and summarized all the suggestions and their upvotes and compiled the TOP 10 scenarios in the table below. After that, I considered which civilizations would be needed for each scenario and compared them to the civ roster currently available in the game. Here's what I found.

Few comments:
  • I aimed to include only the essentials to best represent each civilization within its scenario.
  • Assumed that civilizations are fixed to an Age and won't be moved (i.e. Rome from Ancient to Exploration as Byzantium)
  • In some cases, I merged two scenarios into one, which may not be entirely historically accurate but my goal was to convey the overall spirit of each setting.
  • I'm not a historian, so feel free to suggest any corrections to the list.
  • There were plenty of cool scenarios that didn’t make to the list, such as WWI/WWII, the Cold War, the Wars of Independence across the Americas, the American Wild West (my personal favorite!), Anglo-Saxon Britain and 18th-century India.
  • It would be amazing to have historically accurate leaders for each of these but I hope modders will bring them to life someday.
I'd love to hear your thoughts, are there any major scenarios or broadly universal civilizations you think I’ve overlooked.

Minoa/Mycenae for Bronge Age
Goryeo for Mongol Conquest

Nice summary. Any/all of those scenarios would be fun to have in Civ 7. While I would like to see all the missing civs added to the base game (the more civs the better, especially with 7's three era system), I don't think they are all necessary for the scenarios. The scenarios in civ have always had repurposing and streamlining, and I think quite a few of the scenarios listed could be made utilizing only the civs that are in game at present. I think you could make decent Mongol Empire, Napoleon, Rise of Rome, and Ancient Mesopotamia scenarios using only the civs and units/abilities currently in the game (you can always mix and match for a scenario). The Aztecs and a feudal Japan are must adds for their scenarios, as you would want specific units/abilities for those civs that we currently lack. In addition to those I think if you added at minimum the Byzantines, Sassanids, Goths, and Ottomans you could do justice to the remaining scenarios in this top ten wish list.

I do also think a WW2 scenario would be a good fit for Civ 7. I don't think we've ever had an airplane design more suited for a WW2 scenario than we have right now in 7. It's a shame the AI doesn't use planes more often, but a scenario I think would allow this feature to shine.

A "remake" of Civilization IV Colonization as a scenario would be awesome. To start in the Exploration Era as Spain, Portugal, Franks/Normans, the Netherlands and England/Normans and explore the New World and then switch over to Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, the USA and Canada when declaring independence and transitioning into the Modern Era.

You could also have the option to start as various Exploration Era Native American civilizations (Inca, Aztec, Shawnee, Muisca, Tupi, Taíno) and fight the Europeans and then switch to Modern Era Native American civilizations (Sioux, Iroquois, Cherokee, Mapuche, Wayuu, Navajo) and fight the post-colonial nations (USA, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Canada).

I'm a big fan of scenarios and anyone who has civ 5 should try out the conquest of the new world scenario. Playing indigenous people, fighting back the incursion then conquering Europe is some of the hardest, most fun and rewarding gameplay I've had in any civ game.

I think the steam achievement is around 0.5% of players. Remember when achievements were crazy and fun? Some were like mini-scenarios you could complete during a regular run.

I see the scenario included Piracy and Treasure Fleets :-)

Maybe worth trying this scenario to get a feeling of what we can expect in the Exploration Age in future Civ 7 updates :-)

It would be interesting but not sure if scenarios would handle Age Transitions.
I think most would be confined to a certain age, and that make sense, though i bet someone could figure out a clever way to use age transitions in a scenario.

You also got Treasure from razing cities and settling certain National Wonders in that scenario iirc, and you could even get victory points from sending a Caravel to China/distant lands.

Actually, certain victory point mechanics from other scenarios in Civ 5 seem to have found their way into the legacy paths as well.
  • Wonders of the Ancient World, where you compete for building wonders (Civ 5) <=> Antiquity Cultural
  • Fall of Rome, where Barbarians get VP from conquering cities (Civ 5) <=> Antiquity Military
  • Rise of the Mongols (Civ 5) <=> Exploration Military (Mongolia)
  • Into the Renaissance (Civ 5), where you can get VP from conquering cities following different religions <=> Exploration Military
  • Scramble for Africa, where the Europeans get VP from digging Antiquity Sites (Civ 5) <=> Modern Cultural
And I think there was one in Civ 6 where you got VP from spreading your religion?
