Missing manual in GOTY

Just bought Civ IV GOTY edition (okay, okay, so I am slow to get it this time!). Included is an abridged manual with the statement: "Abridged Manual -- Full Manual on Disk 3" on the cover.

Problem is, I can't find the manual on Disk 3 to save my life. All that is there is a file titled "Data4.cab". I've tried (a) opening that file (can't do it -- computer says it is a damaged or corrupted file and won't open it); (b) looking on all other disks (manual is not on those disks); and (c) poking through the installation directory on my hard drive (can't find it there, either).

I know several on this forum say the manual is not all that useful, but I really prefer to read it anyway (yes, I have that much time on my hands right now!). :D Any ideas as to where I can get the manual in electronic form?

Thanks in advance!

Steve

Why would you go through all this trouble to get something that is as worthless as the CIV 4 manual?

Eh, why not?

-They are out-of-date.
-They provide no useful information whatsoever (that's actually a word :crazyeye: ).
-They are more likely to hurt than to help by causing confusion.
-The real' manual is in game- the Civilopedia.
-The time spent searching for the manual could be spent actually playing the game.
-There are lots of mistakes (goes back to confusion).
-The game is good enough that it doesn't even need the manual.

So am I.

Actually, it did. It told me how to interpret some of the things on the City screen, and limits on Wonders in cities.

Maybe -- but they provide a good starting point (always have, for me, anyway).

Then the "real" manual sucks. It has no visible search function (i.e., you had better know how the designers categorized things. For example, you had better know that information about the game limitations on the number of Wonders in a single city is in the "Game Concepts" section, not the "Wonders" section). It also has no real ability to be printed out for review during times playing is not possible (such as during my commute, or when I am in court waiting my turn before the judge).

Good point.

That doesn't bother me so much. In fact, I can think of at least one way in which that could help me.
-The game is good enough that it doesn't even need the manual.
Ridiculous. This game is one of the most complex strategy games on the market. A decent manual (even if it contains some errors) is worthwhile in that it should lay out some key game concepts, at the very least.

I offer these thoughts not to be obstreperous, but to try and give you some insight into why my preference is somewhat different from yours.

In any event, I found a copy for download here.
