Hi,

a while ago I installed BTS to my new PC(with Vista) and in my first game I saw a lot of bugs. I assume I've done something wrong when installing either the official/unofficial patches, or one of the mods I'm using.

So I thought I should reinstall the whole game and I was just interested to hear(since I know nothing about modding) whether the following "mods" can be used at the same time:

Dresdens unofficial patch v0.21
Blue Marble v4.20
Elhoims Better Ship Scale Basic - BTS v1.0

And if they can, does it matter in what order I install them?

I don't know Elhoim's mod but Blue Marble and the Unofficial Patch will have no conflicts. Note that you do want to apply the Official 3.17 patch before the Unofficial one though.

Ok, thanks.

But now I have a new problem. I reinstalled and patched(3.17) the game. I then decided to check that everything works before any mods. There seems to be some problems with a few texts. For example in the options menu there are 4 tabs, of which the fourth one, which is normally "other" if I remember correctly, is now called TXT_KEY_OPTIONS_SCREEN_OTHER

And I find these same things in many other parts of the game. There were about 5 or 6 in the options tab, plus some in the custom game menu/play now menu.

I then decided to start a game to see if there were any problems there, but when I pushed the launch game button in custom game menu, a window appeared saying:
You must provide a game name.

Whats that about? I've never seen that message before.

I then used the "Play now" option and was able to start a game. In game I also found some of the TXT_KEY texts and the civic screen was all f#)ked up. I could see the actual civic symbols but nothing much else. There was one button in the bottom centre called "cancel" which didn't do anything.

...

It sounds like something may have gone wrong with the patch install. Did you update from inside the game or did you download and apply the patch separately? To make sure the patch is properly applied, do the following (instructions courtesy of ori):

ori said:
start the game
click on advanced
click on about this build
make a screenshot
post that here

The output on that screen will help indicate whether the patch install completed successfully.

I did not use the in-game updater as I've heard there might be some problems with that. I downloaded it from the net and installed.

Unfortunately I don't remember how to post a screenshot, but this is what it says:

Civ Version 317
Save Version 301
Build Version 3.1.3.1(104717)
Build Date Mon May 19 16:20:10 2008
Build FINAL RELEASE
Mod Name None

Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT. I'm posting this in the tech forum, as it seems a better place to find some anwsers.
