Survive Atlantis
The Island/Continent:
The premise:
Atlantis is swept all but clean by one giant freak wave. Some believe it was the trailing fire seen go down in the distance, others that it was but a turn of nature, and yet others stand steadfast in their belief that it is Poseidon's doing. Whatever the reason, Atlantis was, up until the wave, the Might To Be Reconed With, conquering about in the mediterranean as far as Egypt and Italy:
The Athenians created an alliance of the free civilizations in the mediterranean against the Atlantian Empire, and while the alliance disintigrated, they kept on fighting alone. The war turned to the Athenian's favour, and they had pushed the Atlanteans back to Atlantis proper when the wave hit, destroying both Athenian armada and Atlantian civilization. Only isolated groups of people survived the Wave, and now it is a frantic struggle to survive, if only to see the next day.
Please Note:
Pre-Alpha to be out: 30th Sept. 06
Also, the map would basically be a continent surrounded by water, no wrap, maybe some islands close by.
Suggestions, help, any response would be welcome.

Please Note:
- The island is going to sink in a pre-determined number of turns (depending on gamespeed, duh)
- Build an Ark to escape (basic, ensures survival)
a) Direction scenarios a possibility
b) gives a boost in victory scores
c) End of game, you lose if you don't have one
or, most likely
c) You win. It's the spaceship of the past. I mean, why would you stay if you might die at any time?
- Create a forcefield around Atlantis/Kill Poseidon/Laser that prevents other meteors from hitting the earth
a)scientific win
b)Was already under construction pre-Wave
c)fewer hammers than ark, but you need 3 different and VERY rare resources,
or, most likely
c)resources needed are inland, where monsters like minotaurs roam.. very powerful creatures
- Sacrifice people (victory points)
a) Can only sacrifice captives
b) can only get captives from WAR, maybe
c) gives victory points
d) pushes back the sinking time, maybe
- Enslave people
a) Gives boosts to hammers, only for buildings
b) requires a civic, building (like "cages")
c) eats health, which will be VERY limited
- More victory conditions pending thought
- Research EVENTS
a) rather than techs.
ExampleSpoiler :FROM PAGE 3 and 4, I'll clarify more later
Well, like I said before, techs like that wouldn't make sense in a (imagine Poseidon saying this) "I swept away youse buddies an' soon is your turn" way, there just wouldn't be any need to start from the basics when all you need to survive lies conviniently (if in various states of disrepair and rot) in the ruins of a once (too) great civilization. The more I think about it the more married to the idea of the 'months to a few years at best' timescale, with the limited techs it brings. The flavour of a tech focused on lost fishermen finding their way home, allowing for fishing on the coast and leading on to building an ark is just too awesome an idea to let pass.
As side-thought, the idea that one could research a technology that helps guide fishermen home (other than, say, a lighthouse.. which isn't too bad an idea now that I think about it) is somewhat ludicrous. Instead, these could be, rather, events that go with the spirit of the story. Say, an event (say tech) that's called "hidden cache of weapons is found," that lets you build so and so many units of THAT sort, "interpreter of signs finds his way," that lets a civ build some religious/magic unit, "blacksmith's shop rebuilt," for units.. Et cetera and so on. Would give the whole thing a "Lost" feeling, and would make for a fun game.
Think of it as rather than having mystics/scholars research a tech, the survivors are gearing their efforts towards, say "send the people to to look for trinkets/Swords/survivors (underline as needed)" (thanks Kolchenogiy), instead.
Putting incentives for being the first to gear your survivors towards a goal (say, tech) is that they get something extra. Like free units, limited # better units, luxury, et cetera, would also make sense for this. Along with goody huts like "Cache of mystic runes!" and "Survivors!"
- Timescale:
a)It's daily. Days to weeks to months to, perhaps, a few years. A day is forever struggling to survive - Limits:
a) Big limits on health and luxuries, to stimulate that these are basically small groups of people, though it can grow if you surivive long enough.
