[Mod idea] Atlantis Sinks

some quotes from the link provided by kommunaut:

"...ancient Egyptian temple records the Athenians fought an aggressive war against the rulers of Atlantis some nine thousand years earlier and won."

I suggest having a civ named after the athenians rather the greeks... and then a civ for the atlanteans and maybe a egyptian/other civ (a civ the is like a combonation of all of the other civs)

"Athenians fought on alone to defeat the Atlantian rulers. They stopped an invasion of their own country as well as freeing Egypt and eventually every country under the control of the rulers of Atlantis."

"Also in the story Plato gives is a history of Atlantis that shows how the rulers eroded to such a state were they wanted to conquer everyone. This history had been recorded by Solon in notes that were handed down through his family."

Perhaps a hegemany civ?

(incomplete.... will compleat later. but now its sleep time :) )

The thing with the Hegemony is that the empire has literally fallen apart, just as the origional Anti-Atlantis Allience did in the myth. I suppose that the old ruler(s) could be hegemony-based, but it cannot even dominate itself, let alone the world.

This post would have more in it. If I wasn't writing an essay and playing Pikmin.
I will be assisting Locker with brainstorming, as well as suffering through a python education with him.

I would also like to aid in this mod. And learn Python, so I could make my own mods. I have too many half-formed ideas. But for now, Atlantis

Now, I don't know what type of Atlantis mod you all think this is, but I'm making an Atlantis mod.

Kidding, of course.

Help is, naturally, always welcome.

@ Gerikes
Agreed. I was thinking of calling it "Atlantis Falls" at first, but that was far too close to FfH (which is a great mod, by the by), "Atlanteans on a Sinking Island/Continent" was far too similar to that movie with good old Sam, and "Atlantean Goats" was right out. "Atlantis Sinks," however, was fairly descriptive while having (almost) no cons.

Other ideas:
Atlantis Atlantis (a la EE)
Poseidon's Wrath
Ark Atlantis
Atlantis Drowns (Oooh, this is a good one)
Atlanteans Escape

After a wave Atlantis would, of course, not stink, so that is a confusion I would very much want to sidestep.. So I am open for suggestions.

how about Atlantis : Swallowed by the sea
kinda poetic

anyway it think i read somewhere that atlantis was ruled by 10 kings

"Cleito gave birth to five sets of twin boys who became the first rulers of Atlantis."

The rulers changed but i believe there were some queens aswell.

How about for now the name is pending work.

Now I'm very partial to the idea that there is magic somehow and that the wholly or part greeks cannot use it. The magic should most like be centered around the four elements, which the greeks to have believed (here. Some basic tech leading off into four branches.. which may lead back to one for that victory wonder, or not. Think of it as the four elements used to block whatever Poseidon dishes out.

Along with that I am partial to the idea that along with this there is some type of special metal that brings things to life.. think machines with crazy gears and steam that should by no means work.. which would lead to research into it coming from another plane, then victory wonder to transport Atlantis there.. Or that it creates electricity to power atlantean devices.. which leads to moving the island/continent away from Poseidon.

how about alchemy?

Edit: Alchemists can change these elements (fire, water, earth, air) into metals, creatures (dark alchemy), and other stuff.

Alchemy, now that is a good idea. But the idea of the magic metal would be more that it can lead somehow to another plane, like maybe it is somehow linked to it or from this other plane, and by studying it atlantean scientists can figure out how to get to this other reality (and rule supreme!)

im just wondering is the "5th" element going to be included (ether aka aether)?

That's too much like that movie, The Fifth Element. But then again, five elements completes the pentagram.

Wiki

The origin of western alchemy may generally be traced to ancient (pharaonic) Egypt. Metallurgy and mysticism were inexorably tied together in the ancient world, as the transformation of drab ore into shining metal must have seemed to be an act of magic governed by mysterious rules. It is claimed therefore that Alchemy in ancient Egypt was the domain of the priestly class.

So, if alchemy is going to be in as the second type of magic, it could be explained as being taken back from their military conquests into the mediterranean (though it is said that they went as far as Egypt, never actually getting it) or that the knowledge originated in Atlantis, and that it was a relatively new "science" before the wave.

And it would be nicely tied to the four elements.. So thumbs up.

Aether would be a nice addition, as well.

@ Toltec

It could be done that the island/continent is ruled by the decendants of Atlas, though, in my opinion, it would better explain why Poseidon is angry if the government was changed some generations ago to some "undeserving" ruling family, as frosting on the cake.

Definately something with kings, though.

if there are multiple rulers how about a sociocracy?

(im not compleatly sure about the dif. of sociocracy but i belive its when multiple rulers have to all agree on something for it to be a law... similar to a republic except the representitives are all autorcratic)
