Hello everyone,

Im learning how to mod with Kael's guide and by exploring the contents of various mods and forums, but iv'e noticed that there are no mods for city art styles (or at least i haven't found any) i was wondering if it is possible to mod that. Im planing on making an Orc Civ mod (maybe Sauron) or add art assets to existing civs like the Alien civ on Steam workshop and it would be great if i could make the building look orcish or alienish. im just starting to mod civ 5 but i have skills in Photoshop and Maya and have created textures and UV mapping before (if anyone needs help on any of these things ill be happy to lend a hand)

Thanks

@Erich3300: I'm attempting to do this for my Warhammer mod, I will let you know both (a) if it works/doesn't work and (b) if it works, how I did it. If anybody else here knows more about this, please tell us!

I'm sorry, this is really mean of me, but 2-1 Switzerland!

Modding city art styles, buildings or wonders should all be a similar process. I've been trying to do this too but with very limited success.

There are a couple XML files that civ V reads and will make visual changes from. I think overriding/updating these would be the key. Unfortunately these are loaded prior to the mod selection screen so the mod would somehow have to reload the city art system (like we do with units and landmarks via modbuddy).

If you have any luck, please let us know!

@hazel16, I posted in your thread.

A hacky alternative: use the method epicss used in his Blizzard mods (since removed by demand of Blizzard), and make an unmoveable unit--strike that--an extra large building model near the city's center. It's got to be big large enough to completely obscure the city art:
7 Faction : Undead, Human, Terran, Zerg, Orc, Elf and Protoss

I remember this method, although I don't think he could do it dynamically -- you had to make some changes to the core game files, or something?

Although I do wonder if you could make a dummy building that had a unique art define with a giant building image, and then give you capital that building... would that work?

hmm. it is a great alternative, but I think its better to try and find another way. Im assuming you have to edit the core game's files every time you want to turn it on or off...

I might try it just to learn though
