Modding for Better Performance on Low End Systems?

I'm running Civilization IV on a low-end system (laptop with a 32MB memory card) and was wondering if there was anything I could mod to make the game a little easier on my poor laptop.

I've messed with the included graphics options, but that doesn't seem to do much.

i think taking out all of the other language entries in the XML files might help, as there would be less of the file loaded into the memory every time the game needs to reference it. haven't tried it myself, so i'm just guessing

You could find every fScale thing and cut it in half. But then you wouldn't be able to see things very well.
