Nor will I. So I don't go see it. It may surprise you to know that most homosexuals don't do that either, because it conforms to certain stereotypes people have about gay people. But then again, it's not demonstrating for gay rights, is it? Nor is it 'homosexual propaganda' (whatever that means in your president's mind).

If demonstration is happening in a public place, it's intended to be seen by people regardless if they want it or not.

No, I don't think I share common anti-gay stereotypes - if this is what you are implying.

Neither will I. But not because I can't stand the sight, I can easily.

With common stereotypes and grassroots intolerance towards gays, which people commonly don't even try to explain to themselves or analyze, being there is a threat, as many observers are likely to behave hostile rather than cheerfully.

And public safety must always be considered when a march like that is planned and arranged. So, there are 2 possibilities for the local authorities decision: either to encircle the procession with several dense lines of police convoy (which is bulky, expensive and will give the parade a grim look) or not allowing the activity at all. Otherwise they can't guarantee order and safety maintenance.

If you find a third option, you're a hero.

I'm not sure how this is a response to what I said.

Demonstrations are not the same as gay parades; in case you happened to miss that, I am repeating it.

Anti-gay stereotypes? Did you even bother to read my post?

Cheezy and the like would probably have me killed under their system, if not by choice, then by incompetence. There's little to celebrate about state socialism.

And I never said they are the same. This is irrelevant.

Yes, I read and answered. I think you didn't understand my answer properly, either because of language barrier or something else.

Never did I expect a joke thread to develop a serious discussion of LGBTQ politics in Russia.

How do you know I am incompetent?

Besides, no one is talking about emulating the past, nor do I have a time travel device.

It largely depends on what that state socialism actually consists of, doesn't it?

By definition, socialism is not a bad thing as it suggests state focus on social protection efforts and other social aspects of life like health care, education, ensuring basic commodities availability, etc., which is considered humane in probably any culture.

How that is implemented is a different story though...

I think I like the part where he ignores the myriad wonderful things socialism did for hundreds of millions of people, because "zomg gulags and bread lines! Also Trabis suck!" Which are crocodile tears if I ever saw them. The mountain of crimes performed by capitalist regimes dwarfs any errors by socialist ones, as is the suffering they have effected around the world.

If gay parades are irrelevant, why do you keep mentioning them?

Oh no prob. Your English seems excellent to me.

I'm winding up confused at the end of it all, as I usually do in this sort of conversation. We're operating under the assumption, I think, that all marriage revolves around mating rather than simply pair or group bonding as the primary effect. And since it revolves around mating then marriage needs to be structured in such as way that it's all about the children. Yet a sterile person can marry. Yet the old can marry. Yet the stale eggs can marry. Yet the povertous can marry. Yet the diseased can marry. Yet those with transmissible genetic defects can marry. Yet those with terminal disease can marry. Just about anyone can marry just so long as it's a hetero marriage. There's clearly no actual plan regarding the well being of the children of reproductive or non reproductive marriages built into the system. They just sort of happen, and then they correlate somewhat with the fact that people do get married. Then that's held up as proof that marriage is somehow designed around the best interests of offspring. It's really not. The only thing that's holding any water at all is "Gays are socially ikky, we don't want to see them being all gay."

The difference between gay parades and demonstrations in their support, which you constantly talking about, is absolutely irrelevant to the point I'm making.

Farm Boy, frankly I have the same impression that some of your posts are quite challenging to understand. Perhaps that's because we are out of your cultural context and not grasping some idioms or other advanced language stuff. Or maybe I'm just stupid :)

No, the Midwest is rife with oblique references in day to day use. A news reporter will cull them out well. I don't. I think in them.

Alright. Improving language skills is one of major reasons why I'm on this forum anyway.

Yeah, that's a perfect camouflage for the flaws in it to pop up most unexpectedly

Ummm.... Frankly, I have no particular idea what all the fuss is about actually.

Because marriage is in fact not directly connected with mating or reproduction. People can freely live together or not, have children or not - regardless of if they are married or not.

Marriage is something people decide they want, not something they need.

Like all the types of polygamy relations and close relatives mating we've discussed are technically possible, but in unofficial way. No governmental authority or church hierarch will recognize these relations as appropriate and register them as legally existing.

But you don't need legal acknowledgement to conduct whatever lifestyle you prefer. No one will come and arrest anyone for that (unless there is someone younger than 16 involved).

Right. There are 2 explanations to that:
    1. It is the traditional way, and tradition is currently important. You have to wait for this importance to fade (which I hope it will) before messing up with it.
    2. The example. Teens freshly of age and coming of age shortly are supposed to have an example of "normal" (in a traditional meaning) relations. Like in "teach them good; they'll figure out all the bad themselves."

    There is.

It is supposed that having the best for the children in mind, efforts should be made that kids have 1 male father and 1 female mother. Single parenting is accepted as inevitable evil, and single mothers are traditionally more acceptable (allowed to adopt more easily) than single fathers.

So the parenting preference list looks like that:

    1) complete family understood as 1 male father + 1 female mother + kids (preferable);
    2) incomplete family with single parent (acceptable);

These two constitute positive example for the coming generation (defined above) of how things are supposed to be.

    3) everything else (unacceptable).

I recall I saw an article or a study report linked to in someone's signature here. The thing was supposed to prove that homosexual couples make no worse (if not better) parents when kids well-being is considered. I read it with a mixture of curiosity and skepticism. Think I even came upon some flaws in the study design there making the results arguable... Can't find it now though...

I dunno. It seemed really compelling that if one father is acceptable, then a father and an uncle, or a father and a grandfather, or two fathers get almost entirely the same benefits of increased emotional, financial, and raw time investment into the well being of the reared children. More time, resources, and opportunity to "teach them the good" as you put it. I like that saying, btw.
