O.K. so I have niust's earth map for the vanilla Civ4, with the 18 Civs in their respective starting positions and the somewhat "live" barbarians.

I just bought Warlords, and I'd like to adapt the map for the expansion. In other words, I would like to remove the 3 Civs from America and add, say, the Carthaginians, the Ottomans and the Koreans(only 3 so I don't break the 18 Civs limit), each with real locations(not in America).

How would I do this?

I tried with the WorldBuilder, but with no success : I don't seem to be able to add another Civ. It's true I have absolutely no experience with the WB, but could anyone tell me if it's doable?

Thanks a lot for any feedback.

What you're going to have to do is open up the map file with wordpad or notepad. Once you have done that scroll down to where all of the player information is kept. Replace the information for the American civs with the infomation for the new ones you want, and make sure to change the starting locations too.

That is a pretty basic overview, ask if you need it more specifically. Try and figure it out for yourself first though since you'll learn it better that way.

Sweet, thanks a lot.

Where could I find the complete informations on the Civs I'd like, though? And also, could I just change the Civs, and then go into the WorldBuilder to change their starting loc?

Thanks for the quick answer.

You can find a civ's info in the Warlords\Assets\XML\Civilizations\CIV4CivilizationInfos.xml file. I guess you could change the starting location in the WB, but its easy enough to just change it manually.

Alright, removed the 3 Civs from America and added Korea, Ottoman and Carthage.

Testing! :D

Thanks a lot!

Okay, so it worked, but I have another problem : I tried adding some grassland around the Carthaginian starting location, because plains aren't giving enough food to the capital : it takes 17 turns to reach 2 in population, but each time I add the grassland in the WB, when I start a game it turns back to plains.

What's up?

Thank you.

This might sound stupid, but did you remember to save the change you made in the WB? If you did do that then I would just manually go into the file and change it yourself (in case you can't tell I don't really like the WB since its so finicky :p ).

A great way to tell what the coordinates of a tile are is to hold down shift while your cursor is over the tile. This only works when the WB is turned off and if you set CheatCode = chipotle in your Civ4Config file I think.

Yeah I did try saving the changes :P Twice! I didn't think you could manually edit the tiles in the file... I'll have a look into it.

OK, so I started a new game without going into the map file to change the tiles to grassland, and suddenly they were there; everything's fine on that side.

But I noticed something else : when I start a game, the 3 Civs I modified into Carthagan, Ottoman and Korea seems to start one turn later than all of the others, they're always 2 points behind in culture, and 1 turn behind in the first warrior production.

Also, I noticed that all of the Civs, at the beginning of the game, don't have their 2 free techs. Weird.
