If I had time to make mods I would make these, but I just don't seem to have the time (of course if I haven't started playing Neverwinter Nights and/or Dungeon Siege by this summer I may make some mods). Here is some ideas I had for mods and since I thought I wouldn't make them I'd throw them out to you guys and see if anyone would use them. I know the scenarios will be really difficult now, but I listed them anyway.

1) Fantasy world where each civilization is a different race and has totally different units. I originally thought of this when I was thinking about the Tolkien mod, but I thought it would be really cool for someone to create a new fantasy environment (magic would be cool to include).

2) Future- I vaguley remember a Civ 2 mod where it was after the "nuclear appocalypse." This would be a cool setting where you could start with modern day units (or maybe a little bit older) and invent a future tech tree and future units (lasers, rocket launchers, maybe sound based weapons, etc...).

3) This might sound strange but a realistic mod set in the middle east during the rise of the civilizations because this was one of the first places to have organized societies.

4) Same as three but based on tribal conflict in Africa (supposedly where humans first evolved).

5) Whole Earth WW2 scenario.

6) Civil War scenario

7) Revolutionary War

8) Lord of the Rings (someone is doing this)

9) Star Wars (someone is doing this)

10) Several other huge wars would be cool: the Hundred Years War, the Crusades, The seven year war (French and Indian War).

Thats all I can think of for now.

On number 3. I would love to play as the Sumerians. (Include aliens!)

how about a rome scenario like the one that came with civ 2? maybe include these civs.

Rome
Egypt
Carthage
Gauls/Goths (i know they were barbarians but they would need to have more effect in this scenario than regular barbs in civ 3)
Germania
Selucid Greeks
Macedonian Greeks
Ptolemic Greeks

any more ideas? not sure if this could be made before scenario editor is released but may be possible the same way the modern war scenario was made by dutcheese?

Great suggestions, Leprechaun - personally I would like to play them all.

Actually I was browsing through this part of the forum looking for mod creation tips, as I have been working on a Rise of Civilizations (Working title: The Fertile Crescent) mod/scenario since the release of Civ2 - this time around I might actually take the time to finish it...but then again, I might wait until the release of Civ5 :crazyeye:

The rise of the roman empire would be cool. The one that came with Civ2 I believe was based on the fall of the empire, but I could be wrong. Also a couple more ideas.

1) The Chinese dynastys (before it was really stable)

2) Greek city-states (don't forget the Minoans, I think they're the civilization that some historians believe the story of Atlantis is about...)

3) India around the begining of it being settled (I don't think there is much information on it though)

4) Humans live in under water cities etc....

5) Conquest of space- land is planets- ocean is outer space

6) this is really strange (Bio class must be getting to me...) something based on animals, like the tech tree could be evolution, though I don't know how that would work

Thinking about some of these I better understand why they made corruption in Civ 3 as bad as it is. It prevents you from growing too much and totally destroying all the other civilizations. There has never been one group in history that has been able to control large amounts of land for one time. Also they should include revolutions and revolts of cities far away from the capital. I don't just mean the cities changing to a different civ, but starting their own civ.

Forgot another idea I had that would be interesting. A mod with every unit having hidden nationallity. It would be great for governments with war weariness, but also it would be cool because of the constant state of war that would occur. (I know taking a city would reveal nationality, but it wouldn't be possible to tell witch country was attacking you). I just thought that would be interesting and really easy to do.

Also just thought I'd mention a 2 second mod I made where I allowed there to be 16 civilizations on the smallest sized map. Talk about mayhem... Its a lot of fun, if a little cramped. The first game I tried it on chieftan. I had about 20 cities the AIs had 2 or 3 each.

I'd really like to have the Rise of Rome scenario as well. I like titan's suggestion of civ's for it, but i'd add a few more on.

-----------
Rome
Carthaginians
Ptolemic Kingdom (Egypt)
Selucid Kingdom (Mesopotamia to near the edge of the Indus River)
Antioch Kingdom (Turkey to Isreal)
Macedonian Kingdom
Achean League (Southern Greece including Athens and Sparta)
Atolian League (North of Acheans such as Delphi)
Illyrian Greeks (Slovenia, Croatia, and most of Bosnia)
Independent Greeks (Syracuse, Samnium, Bruttium, Armenia, and the Galatians)
Iberians (Spanish tribes through Spain)
Gauls (Tribes through N. Italy and South and Central France)
Germania

I would just suggest having huge amounts of barbairan tribe concentrations in far Asia. They would provide hordes of men and would hopefully take some significant time to reach any destination (asiatic tribes such as Goths, Visigoths, Huns, etc.). Since there were no ocean worthy vessals (sea for that matter) turning the map into a flat one (impossible right now i think) is of no concern. I'd love to see a scenario on Rome or any ancient scenario for that mater. :)

Leprechaun, Every unit having hidden nationality is impossible to play. Trust me.
Your settlers and workers get stolen all the time, and with no moment of peace, it is difficult to improve your cities.

I realize that, but the computer would have to be going through the same thing as you and since we already determined the computer doesn't have good war ai, it would probably be to the human advantage. Just imagine every unit hidden nationality plus 16 civs in a tiny (or whatever the smallest size is) pangea game...

The AI will always attack Hidden Nationality units in their territroy. If they are in neutral or foreign territory, they will attack hidden nationality units that are in adjacent squares. It's an interesting idea and I think I'll try it out.

You probably wouldn't be able to spend much time building up your empire since most of your time will be spent building units.

Here's a question:

If all units are set to Hidden Nationality and the AI will always attack them, what happens if the Hidden Nationality units are the only units that are guarding a city. Will the AI attack the city because of Hidden Nationality or not because it would start a war? I would think they would not attack, but then again the AI can do some pretty strange things.

Speaking from personal editing experience.
Leprechaun, on a small map, it is hell. It is not to the human player advantage. The AI becomes merciless attacking every worker, settler and not well defended city it sees.
pesoloco, the AI attacks all units equally. Hidden nationality, non hidden nationality. It razes and captures cities without declaring war, no matter what defends the cities.

I've been planning for a mod between 279 and about 140BC, which is mainly about the Rise of Rome. The civs I want to use in it are : Macedonia, Rome, Carthage, Ptolemaic Empire, Seleucid Empire, Bactria, Parthia, Pontus/Cappadocia (they were both Cappadocia), Aetolian League, Achaean League, Sparta (neither Achaean or Aetolian), Greece, Illyria, Molossoi Kingdom (Epirus), Pergamum, and the Celts. I've just never gotten around to announcing it though... :(

That Star Wars mod you mentioned is very hard to do right now (im really the only one working on the units, graphics, sounds, text files, etc...) Lukree is still working on the terrain and nEo is taking care of the website and leaderheads, but besides that, thats all we've really got. I do want to thank Dark Sheer, Plastic Bag and TedG for their additions also. But we still need help, so if anyone wants to help, just email me at tpasmall@rochester.rr.com or just start a new thread with what your working on. :D

I just wanted to say I'm glad there is this much interest in some of the ideas and if anyone is doing any of thses mods (or other mods), I'd be willing to help with ideas, though I don't really have time to do modding.

i made a Civil War mod......

no-one 'll tell me how good it is tho No-one else cares lep

I vote for a fantasy mod, i.e. the long awaited Master of Magic II, but unfortunately with an greatly inferior unit/combat system and goody huts; however, everything else could be made better.
