[MoM] Masters of Madness

Ethene is evil, she made a deal with the orcs... i´m sure of it!

First of all we learn how to cast spells, most likely spells that blow up the evil Elohim!!!!!
Spoiler :

Some random events happen but since they are not related to killing the Elohim i do not care that much....
Spoiler :

We now have the raiders trait, this is good as it might be helpful in killing the Elehom.
Spoiler :

Loki bums around the elohim lands, i think we have most of their citys mapped by now.
We pick up some fancy techs aswell!
Spoiler :

Loki has found some pray, patiently he stalks it...
Spoiler :

While that is going on our first mage is ready to kill Elohim also we do a little civic related changes, greed and undercouncil are now part of our official policy.
Oh and we got some bard, i just settled him in the capital for the gold he gives.
Spoiler :

And once again i am missing screens, dont know what is going on there. -.-
Anywayws what happend is, i could not reach the city they founded shortly after this screen was taken.
Spoiler :

Those damn orcs blocked my way!
I am not even kidding, they protected the city from Loki, no way of geting though.
I guess the Elohim have some sort of secret agreement with them, i therfore suggest we destroy all Elohim and orc with extreme prejustice, this is no longer about expansion, this is a crusade!!!!!!!!!!
*rage*

So, it's official that Perpy will go to war?

I usually switch to Warrior Caste, Patriotism and Slavery when go to war as an evil civ. Does this civic combo is okay, or other ideas?

Next, I think we should research Priesthood. We have plenty of hunters and freaks with diseased and Cultists will remove the diseased. Not to mention, Tsunami is great for softening coastal cities.

EDIT : How do I make strikethrough?

Furious, Perpentach Paced back and forth around the throneroom. His mind a tumultuous mealstrom of wild thoughts.

"AAAaaRgHHH! Those revolting Elohims! How could creation allow the existence of such foul treacherous creatures!"

"They must be destroyed!! NOW!!! NOW!!! "

"But we must admit that buying the service of orcs has its merit!"

"THE TREACHEROUS FOOLS!!"

"Indeed, such treacherous people can be expected to do things against our interests..."

Perpentach scratches his chin .

"Such as Not dying easily!"

"Indeed, this must be considered as part of the spectrum of possibilities."

"Treacherousness is in other words, a quality!"

"A very nice line of thought! "

Perpentach sits on the throne.

'If we were in their place, we would count on the multitude of garrisoned archers to make such a possibility more likely. "

"BUT THEY MUST DIE NOW!!!"

"Or else they might stay alive longer..." :(

"And did i mention that those Pachyderms are also in the way?"

"Yes, and horses really hate them."

"Thats it! Horses!! "

And this is how Perpentach decided he needed horses to defeat the vile lady Ethne.
Of course, something had to be done now in order to have her acknowledge her inferiority, or else Perpentach feared he would lose his sanity.

He decided to request a tribute.

Spoiler :

Now that Ethne was properly humiliated, Perpentach felt a bit better. Apparently the Overlords were happy with him for they sent forth an unexpected gift!

Spoiler :

Some people feared a curse from the mysterious boat but Perpentach quickly reminded them that curiosity was a chief quality. And the reward was great!

The boat was indeed a top notch Gallleon and onboard was a group of mace wielding lunatics, who promptly joined our righteous cause. Their lust for war and destruction would be a great aid. Acknowledging the gift from the gods, Perpentach was all too happy to order the construction of a temple of the overlords.
Spoiler :

Perpentach decided the kingdom was too small so he proceeded to train some settlers and sent a group of hunters to prepare the terrain. The surprise was not very big to learn that the previously cleansed forest was now host to a new Orcish fort... Perpentach dispatched the newly trained adepts on site to help control those stubbord pests.
Spoiler :

In the meantime St.Augustine published a work about the most advanced nations on Erebus. It was no big surprise to learn that the imaginative Balseraph was to most advanced people.
Spoiler :

A proper Horseman task force was now one step closer.
Spoiler :

While the Adepts were baiting the Orcs with some puppets, we were surprised by the group of lunatics who were suddenly struck by a blind rage and charged the orchish forces. The other troops offered some prior softening to the lunatics target to make sure they would win, and they did.
Spoiler :

The construction of land improvements continued near the city of Hexan. As the newly build fishing boat was sailing to destination, Perpentach was struck with the thought that this city would make an Excellent Mage disctrict!
Spoiler :

The city of Argenteria nasty evil goblins was founded, and the stockpile of stone was used to immediately built a carnival in it.
Spoiler :

Not long before, our hero hunter was given the care of a specially trained parrot, with the help of the bird some more wild land was revealed.
Spoiler :

And we somehow meet Auric Ulvin and his not so impressive empire.
Spoiler :

As a part of the continued preparation for the war against the Elohim, Perpentach had ordered the researching of warfare methodology. He advocated the possibility of building a mighty warrior disctrict in Jubilee, where could be built a magnificiant statue called, Form of the Titan.
Spoiler :

Perpentach had a while before sent the Galleon do a scouting run in the nearby seas, but some careful manoeuvrings was necessary to negotiate around the sea monsters.
Spoiler :

And some new research projects were completed. Perpentach envisioned an army of lance wielding horsemen breaking through the ranks of garrisoned Elohim archers.
Spoiler :

He also imagined them being softened by fireballs so he ordered such a spell to be researched.

Then, without us noticing anything, those crazy lunatics went berserk again and charged the peaceful pachyderm that lived near nasty evil goblins. Fortunately they killed it and gained a level. Which turned them further into attack specialists.
Spoiler :

Motivated by the exemple, our hunters also went on a pachyderm hunting run further to the south.
Spoiler :

We found the city of Gaudium near the pachyderm hunting ground. Then our adepts practiced their spellcasting on the second pachyderm and our hunters captured it. We now have an elephant in our rank.

Spoiler :

Then something extremely scary happened. Perpentach sent the hero hunter on a boat trip to scout the landmass at the south. However, immediately upon landing he was attacked by a group of specters as well as a pride of lions. As a Hero, he was awarded a second chance and could bail out. The whole thing made him gain a level. With a lesson well learned, he took the boat back home for the time being.
Leaving a group of recently tamed lions in place as they could not make it to the boat.
Spoiler :

Thats it, 20 turns completed.
Lets talk a bit about city specialization.

I vote for Noble-Warrior districts in Jubilee, I vote for Mage district in Hexan ( And this should be the next thing we build there)
and i vote for Merchant district in Gaudium, the last city i built. I think this city should specialize in wood production. We really need to have some wood production. I was building a camp there to provide some food before the border expended, but in the longer run, i think it screams for lumbermills.

Also, i spread OO to two other cities using zealots.

On city district :

1) I agree with Noble District --> Warrior District on Jubilee
2) On Hexam, wouldn't it more beneficial if we build Merchant District there? With two silvers, fish and rice, it will generate many, many gold.
3) Argenteria is more fitting for Sage District, since it has mountain. We can build Observatory there.

EDIT : How do I make strikethrough?

As you may have read already, i did not exactly go to war already. I think hunters are nice, but not against garrisoned archers+ magic wall.

I agree to those civics, but it would take 2 turns to switch.

And about priesthood, i hesitated between this and witchcraft. I eventually took witchcraft but i think i should have taken Priest. Witchcraft is one turn to go so next player could start priesthood almost immediately.

What is strikethrough?

On city district :

2) On Hexam, wouldn't it more beneficial if we build Merchant District there? With two silvers, fish and rice, it will generate many, many gold.

My thought on this one was that gold production generally= research, since the slider is pretty much near 100% research all the time ( at least in my games). Also, merchant districts are somewhat capped in population so i feel like those food ressources would be wasted on a low pop city.
Moreover, the AI value for Mage district is very high.

But lets hear from the other players :D

The city of Argenteria nasty evil goblins was founded

Like this

Report on the Year of Dancing Werewolf and Singing Spectre

Our Lord Perpentach ordered a military campaign to be held against the nasty Elohim. But before that, we need to deal with Elohim's greenish wall (somehow, the Elohim had painted their walls with green paints. Balseraphs artisans believe that the paint will make it harder for our warriors to attack the city. Superstitious folks!). The best way to erase the paint is by throwing water, a large body of water. That's why we are researching Priesthood. We need the help of the Cultists of Overlords to bathe the walls of Elohim cities with ocean water.

[lurker's note :]
Ethne has casted various enchantment to strengthen her cities. The greenish wall is Echanted Wall activated. This enchantmet will provide high defense rating for her cities. But the wall will not protect the cities from Cultists' tsunami ;)

At the same time, I decided to strengthen our arcane forces by building the Catacomb Libralus. Joining the Undercouncil also provide us with great benefits. The members of Undercouncil agree to develop secret code. One Great Sage arrived at our capital to work with the Undercouncil agents.

Nosamonce led an expedition to the west. He managed to destroy a lair of Spectres. While pillaging the lair, he found scrolls of forgotten knowledge about some strange god with unpronouncenable name Cthulthu. The scrolls were advancing our research on Priesthood. One more turn-year left, before the knowledge is ours!

Bad news, though. While Nosamonce and his team were sacking the Spectre's lair, our Lunatic went mad with blood lust. He tried to play tug-of-war with some skeletons. Sadly, the skeletons won. I have prepare a symbolic burial for our Lunatic. (that is why I hate dealing with madmen, especially mad military men!)

While waiting for our research and build orders, I spent some mana to raise hills near Coombe View.

[lurker's note :]
Master of Mana introduced terraforming rituals. Players can change their lands as necessary, from removing peaks, creating hills, drowning lands. Players also can cast hostile terraforming rituals to hamper/destroy enemy lands.

Finally, we have completed the Catacomb Libralus! A Great Bard also joined our cause, ready to write a heartrending ballads about our struggle against the Elohim. I will give order for the mayor of Jubilee to build a Noble District before I go to retirement.

[lurker's note :]
There are several district buildings which specialize cities in Master of Mana. The base districts are : Noble (gives culture, happiness and health), Merchant (gold, gold and gold), and Sage (research, mana and spell research).

Each base districts can be upgraded into another districts :
  • Noble can be upgraded into Warrior (more population, +xp for units), Temple (faith) and Bard (more culture).
  • Merchant can be upgraded into Warehouse (+50% lumbers, leathers, metals, stones), Herbalist (+1 health in the empire, more herbs), Foreign Trade (more trade routes), Luxury (gives random luxury resources)
  • Sage can be upgraded into Salon (more research) and Schola Arcana (mana and spell research)

  • So, we have completed Priesthood, and now researching Arcane Power.
  • We also have finished Fireball, and now researching Willpower to boost our arcane units.
  • We have finished Catacomb Libralus in Jubilee. Now, Jubilee is building Noble District. Coombe View and Hexam are ready to build districts too. Maybe one Sage and one Merchant, or two Merchants? (to be honest, I rarely use Sage District in my games )
  • We also have Great Sage and Great Bard in Jubilee. I suggest for Academy in Sage District, while we can settle the Great Bard.
  • We have to do something to boost our faith income, but I hesitate to cast Tribute to the Overlords since it give our units Crazed. The last thing that we need is for our military units running amok uncontrollable. The other alternative imo is finding Incense anad build Oracle near it.
  • The western part of the island have Reagents. Claiming this will boost our spell research.

1) imho we don't really need merchant districts right now, our economy is sound and there's lots of food to grow these cities... but if we want a balanced amount of districts then I'd go with Sage+Salon in Coombe View, Merchant+Warehouse in Hexam ( MOAR resources and global yields ) , and then build the Sage District+Schola Arcana near the reagents ( IIRC having reagents in the BFC boosts the Schola Arcana ) .

2) we're going to need arid realm global enchantment, we need some plains to build our trade posts!

3) are you sure tribute to the overlords gives crazed also in MoM vanilla?

great game so far guys :goodjob: it'll be some 10 hours before I can play though, so if you wanna go before me you're very welcome to do so :)

about the incoming war, I think we would greatly benefit from mixing in some horsemen with our hunters. we are currently raiders AND Ethne's cities are going to be hard to crack, so we'd be better off pillaging her to oblivion instead of suiciding against her walls ;)

Yeah, pretty good game so far :D

Should now be Gekko's then Aline,
Or maybe Aline then Gekko ?

Im at job now so i cant play for at least 6 hours from now.

We now have to possibility to build Horsemen, fireball wielding adepts and tsunami priest. This should be a pretty efficient mix against Ethne'S legion of archers. Only problem is our army cap is full...

I think we should switch to warrior caste and build a warrior disctrict + barrack in Jubilee, should allow some headroom.

And im not sure about casting world spell yet :p

I guess ill give it a go then.
*edit* acctualy i think that is the wrong save there
