Probably at home :)
After several pure EE games on Monarch I feel confident. Should I try to make a EE monarch walkthrough game thread here? If so who should I pick as my leader Gilgamesh or Suleiman? ;)

An EE on Monarch is not the best idea my friend. AIs tech horribly slow......VERY slow. I don't see much sense in an EE until Immortal +.

Exactly. As AI tech is slow you have enough gold to upgrade old units. Also EE on monarch gets better on large pangea with many targets from the beginning.

by 1000 AD an average empire for me on Monarch is:

10-12 cities
NE
HE
GT
Oxford
Replaceable Parts and Liberalism - taking Rifles as free tech
500-750 BPT
24-40 Maceman which will be upgraded to Rifles

I could be very very wrong, but, I am doubtful an EE will produce similar results.

Ok, EE at monarch is not the best way to play.
But I'd look with interest a game like OP promised.

I tried a couple of time EE with Gil, but I ended up running an early specialist ecomony both game.

BTW, I'm two\three centuries behind the average Crusher1 empire, so no need to hurry up :)

Muxec, there is an open espionage RPC that focuses on running an EE game, you may want to try that. It usaes Mao who I find works well for EE only because he has no good traits otherwise.

Of Gilgamesh and Suliman I prefer Suliman because Philospohical can pop out Great Spies faster rathern than Gilgamesh's early Zig.

Try winning a space race against the AI while stealing all the techs after Code of Laws at monarch. It aint easy.

I second Crusher's advice. I will say, however, that a better idea is to *transition* to a midgame EE.

Basically, tech normally until Democracy/Communism. THEN turn off research and go pure espionage. Try to minimize gpp until then so that you can spam GSpies for SYs.

The key here is to produce insane amounts of espionage. That way you can steal techs to always remain at military parity.

Aside from that, you just go hardcore production for a large military combined with mass spies for lowering defenses amongst other things (e.g., pillaging military resources).

Proceed to win by domination/conquest.

EDIT: Nationhood is a great fit here because it allows you to draft + it boosts espionage.

Eh it depends. I've played the RPC up to mid 1800's now and will post tomorrow probably as I won't be home much today. However I have a tech lead over every AI that is not the tech leader and have enough espionage on said leader to destroy his space parts and keep his culture cities in permanent revolt. Additionally as the AI does not focus espionage as aggressively as a human can I have also been able to toy with other AIs. For example spending points to keep people in favorable civics and religions - favorable for me that is. So far the main problem I have is building enough spies to spend all the points I am gaining. Of course the RPC rules are what are causing this since I can't go to war and "lose" all those points while gaining land. Honestly even on emperor I am bored out of my mind with the game now. You are at the will of the AI that beelines to important techs like a ******ed monkey. The tech leaders seem to be going for space since their culture cities are awful, but just got Rocketry in the mid 1800's, even though they have had space part techs and Aluminum revealed for at least 50 turns now.

It is a great change of pace and it is fun, but I cannot fathom this type of economy on anything below Diety for myself at this point. The AI just techs too darn slow.

Possibly the most important point to be made re an Espionage Economy.

The drafting alone is almost reason enough to stick to Nationhood. But with the extra 2:) from the barracks, zero upkeep and EP boost, everything just goes well together. If running an EE, keep drafting for the rest of the game, especially if playing a Protective leader. Protective Mech Infantry are nasty.

Build filler cities everywhere possible and grow them enough to draft from them. Cities on the coast can draft away their citizens that are working crappy tiles like ocean.

Yes it is. If you don't restrict war declarations, it's quite easy for high level players to do that at monarch. Whether that's necessary will depend on the map (IE if it's only 1 AI going far away in tech, you can just sabotage that 1 sucker and you've got it).

However EE doesn't come into its own until you get the multipliers for it, so you're already suggesting something that's probably somewhat suboptimal. Still, at monarch it's no trouble, especially for someone like crusher.

Well, perhaps I am wrong!

If there are several AIs getting away with techs they normally follow different paths putting you above all of them.

The ideal nearest neighbours setup would be Isabella+ Gandhi +Joao(or Willem)+Alex(or Ragnar)

I suppose the obvious question would be why? I see no fun or point in it at all. It sounds about as lame and pointless as those who play OCC.

Mad's espionage economy RPC was one of the most fun and interesting to watch.

That's a matter of poor opinion and questionable taste.
