Monarch Tokugawa Shadow Game

Hmm, I think if you moved the northern warrior 1W, 1NW might be good, for meeting the northern neighbor, and I hear meeting people is good (can give a 5% discount on research for example).

Building the settler at size 3 was probably the right choice, but as mentioned above, extra commerce from the lake boosts your beaker rate by 22% and slows the settler by 10% (at least once you start building settler), so it seems worth it to get the cottages online faster.

Settled 2nd city and making sure the lake is being worked. I'm not sure whether to get another worker out now or try to quickly get out another settler to try to take the gold from Freddy. I'm thinking I should probably have Osaka work the wheat and then cottage the first floodplain. I'm feeling like this might be a construction rush kind of game.

you can check my edits in the previous post.
Axerush looks best afaic :)

And yes, work the wheat for at least 4 turns to grow faster / whip worker into granary in cap.

So for an axe rush would the plan be:
1. Get out a worker in the cap to do some chopping, barracks, then constant axes, maybe whip once at size 4 (food situation ain't great and no granary yet)
2. Get barracks in Osaka, then constant axes (probably better to whip this city?)

No barracks.
You got 2 cities. Just pump as many axes as fast as possible. Not sure about granary in cap actually. Would be perfect if you could whip worker into axe directly. There is a trick you can use to build "nothing" for a turn if need be. City 2 whips or chops a worker at size 2. Then get axes by whatever means possible: 2 pop whip with less than 5 hammers invested is ideal ; otherwise just chop.
Use one worker to start roading north when the time is right. 1 pop whip to complete the stack possibly. Invade with 8 axes I think.

I think planning for the axe rush can start as soon as you finished researching BW. Since I guess it's a math problem of how many axes you can make quickly.

soundjata, what do you mean by building "nothing" for turn?

All this talk of axe rush makes me feel quite nostalgic :old:.

Probably still a decent plan.

At some point AH to pasture sheep is worth considering (given your general lack of food).

Isn't barracks in capital worth it for a few 20% city raiders, since we're Aggressive so the barracks is only 25 hammers, less than an Axe?
Yes I did not consider the half cost of barracks.
Could build one in the cap although its not really a necessity. (one barracks for one less axe on the same turn is basically the tradeoff)

@ building nothing for a turn. Sorry i'm too tired to explain this here and now
There was a thread where we discussed the notion extensively recently...

Yes exactly.
At the point we have grabbed a couple of foreign capitols seems about right

Just before ending the turn, enter city screen, press a number on your keyboard, exit city screen and end turn. This allows you to "build nothing" which loses the :hammers: you'd produce, but stores the overflow :hammers:.

Thanks! I'll see if I can find the thread, since that's a useful trick (for anything unlocked by tech or resource).

Boudicca settled right next to me so I know where my first target is gonna be. I did build a barracks in my cap since it was only 1 turn. I just finished AH. Do I want to go writing or mysticism here?

You don't need mysticism. Soon buddha will be yours to (auto) spread.
Have you focused your EP on anyone? It would be nice to evaluate Boudica's power now.

BTW be careful you are going to lose the copper as soon as Vienne culture reaches 10. This is a big problem. How many axes can you have before that?
Time for some 1 pop whip action

You need a worker roading with the stack. Mines are bad mkay?
Grab the cap asap. And scout Germany with open borders :trouble:

Bibracte looks like it'll fall in about 2 turns. The land is looking a better up here. I think I might be able to reach alphabet first. It always seems to go slow on monarch.

I think it's probably close to time to start pivoting to getting a bunch of workers out and maybe some settlers for some of the other city locations.

Also ivory means I can probably get aggressive again (engineering maybe?), though I think for now I'll need to get my land improved and settle a bit (assuming Boudicca is still a cakewalk).

Looks like there's a lot of land for me to settle now with Boudicca gone. I think this can be a good learning experience on how to snowball.

I'm curious what the plan on immortal would have been with this start. It doesn't look like there was really much I could have done outside of the axe rush (unless there happens to be iron somewhere).
