I have pretty much the same problem...

I cant go to the desktop or return and have to shut down through the "power" button!!

Ive tried it 6 times and its still the same!!
I feel Ripped of!! Now I cant continue playing the ****ig game!!!!

P.S
Ive got a Radeon Mobility X700 Graphics Card

I'm having the same issue, and it just started today. I start playing a game for maybe 10 or 15 minutes, then the screen starts to screw up (words are garbled and overall the screen could most closely be described as how a scrambled t.v. station would look like) and then the screen either goes completely black, shuts off and won't turn back on, or is a complete garbled mess that I can't alt-f4 or control-alt-delete or windows-d out of at all. I've got the latest patch with Radeon 9800 Pro and any help would be greatly appreciated.

It happens the same to me with the latest nvidia drivers. I have a 6600 GT.

So theres been no way to fix this problem at all mentioned anywhere?

Did you try rolling back your graphics drivers? Newer drivers aren't always better IMO. Remember, these new drivers weren't around when the game was originally being written. Of course, this shouldn't matter, but it wouldn't be the first time I've seen older drivers work better. If you're at the end of your rope, give it a try.

Did the screen blank out, or go into power-save mode (usually an amber light)?

Why dont you just change the display options so that it never goes to sleep after a specified period of time. I think that should solve your problems.
