I'm a relative newb. I've played three games so far. I was looking over some strategy tips when I came across a thread about city size. People were posting pics of these huge cities like a 48.

How do I make my city have a higher number? Even my capital with a ton of wonders in it is only like a 24 in 2000. I am still learning all the aspects so honestly I don't even know how the city number is calculated.

That is the population of the city. It is mostly a matter of food production.

First off, a ton of wonders doesn't increase your population... care to explain how you got this rule?

Secondly, you can have a countless population. The reason why: to start, Great Merchants provide 1 food. If you have a dozen of these you could support 6 population. The other reason is food corporations, especially Sid's Sushi. If you played a Huge Archeipelago Map, you guaranteed to get a huge sum of fish resources which provide a massive amount of food in cities where the corporation is present.

And to get those massive cities, they also need a BFC containing a lot of food. Although I should mention that massive cities does not help your game. It's a matter of balance.

If not, then the huge cities could be the factor of a mod.

Anyways, Welcome to the Forums, Sleeping King.

Thanks guys. I was just guessing the wonders had something to do with it. Glad to know that it's really not that important. I'm just playing on Warlord but I have not had much problem taking over cities but I was a little intimidated when my capital is a 15 and they have a border city of 20 that I want to attack.

Love those guides too!

As you can see in the picture, the city contained 20 great merchants. Enough to sustain 10 population already. Also, the BFC has been prioritized to provide the max food. This was accomplished by placing a farm on every grassland and plain and a windmill on the hill. Resulting in a huge food surplus.

Exactly. The city is a cash and food machine. He even put a windmill on coal (!).
