What do we want to attack first, our Viking enemies or our Indian? That decision will determine the settlement plan.
We might wanna pump out some settlers, at least six to settle on the dots and two others: one to settle on the river and one to settle as filler between Dellham, river city and the cities to the north.
I think this is getting confusing though, I'll post another plan in which the other cities are shown too...

These settlements are a priority, they should have been placed long ago, instead of the fillers further south. We must be cautious, obviously, though as we send them up towards possible viking nutters:crazyeye:

Just to show off my amazing drawing skills... ;)
To add a little bit to the discussion: we might want to place some archers and diplos to the north, whenever Vikings land, just attack or bribe. I don't know how expensive it is to bribe a settler but if it's cheap I like the idea of doing so: we have a settler and we have it near the spot we want it to be! (nice...)

I don't think units are too expensive to bribe at this stage. The Viking leader is a 'Warlord' meaning they are yet to get to Monarchy

    Good point Danderfluff! ;)

I'm confident that with the large amounts of cash we are earning each turn even under a Monarchy and with the Viking capital on a different island then we will find both units and settlements remarkably easy to bribe! :D

Very good drawing! I like the idea of building on the Coal Mine, and it will require 2 Settlers, one of them 10 turns, to build a Coal Mine Hill City. Future business.

One correction: One yellow dot is the 'old' G2. The current plan is to found G2NE, adjacent to the 3 Forest, very soon now. The GLS we seem to loose   can be worked by Castle Jayne.

Rout, I disagree. The Fillers are about to help us big time. The reason we have so much productivity is this: I have tirelessly argued to found a city, then build roads later.

Everyone, please consider this: we need to plan an Archer to go with every Settler. There is a Settler coming thru now, building the last piece of road to Elysium. We'll send it NW, but where is it's Archer? Perhaps the Iron City Archer (in 5 turns) can scout, then join the Settler. Found where? Blue dot, or Yellow? Found somewhere ASAP. In the interest of quickness and safety, I recommend the River City SE of the Forest, rather than the Yellow Dot E of Forest; it gets one more Green. Another Filler!

Gary, not sure what you mean by River City SE of forest, I don't see that combo on the map. But I would be strongly in favor of pushing north with our cities to deny the Vikings any place to settle on our land. Need to watch our Eastern (Marl Downs area) coast as well.

We need to clear the Vikings and settle our continent before worrying about the Indians, IMO. Yes, they'll be hard to crack with the Great Wall, but I think it would take a major effort at this point to get to them before they build it, and would pull us off-track of our primary goals: Trade and Science.

Typical of me to not be clear.
Using Civ1's latest map above, there is a Yellow Dot on the River, W SW of the Wine, and 5 squares above Castle Jayne. Call it the River Yellow Dot. It is E of a Forest.

It is close, but was improved by a plan of MonkE's. I recommend the River City SE of the Forest, rather than the Yellow Dot E of Forest; it gets one more Green. Another Filler!

Am I clear, that Dellham is a crisis? It may grow, then shrink, disband units, I'm terrified. Please download and study mr_b400.sav

 I don't see why you think Dellham will disband any units. IIRC, units are disbanded only if they require shield support beyond the city production. Did I miss something?

If we bribe units to the north they probably will be homed in Dellham, which could result in Dellham's most distant unit being automatically disbanded.
Also, if it builds too many settlers this will reduce sheild output, and may result in negative food (not very filling!).
I can't download so can anyone confirm this?

The crisis is that there is already one entertainer. When it grows, it will need two entertainers, then it will shrink. It is presently supporting two units (Archer guard and Legion hunter), building Settler 19/40, and will grow in one turn. The growth will, I believe, be the trouble. I hope other people can look at the download.

No problem with the growth for Dellham..... Actually, right now it doesn't need an entertainer to stay content. With the archer and HG, it would be at one happy, one unhappy.

As it is now, when it grows, it should result in one happy, one content and one entertainer. That will leave it producing 1 food and 4 shields. After it grows it will need an entertainer.

Population adds look like they will kick over a couple other cities though. Civvium and Gabba Gabba look like they will riot if we don't make an entertainer first.

Generally, the cities that will riot before the others (if all cities are equal) are currently Civvium, Gabba Gabba, Marl Downs, Reneaux, and Castle Jayne. You can see in their happiness box that they are the cities with 'angry' citizens, just just mere unhappy ones.

BTW, we are making entertainers before the city riots rather than after, right? You guys all know that when a city is is disorder you lose that entire turns worth of production for the city, so making an entertainer to keep the rest of the city producing is very critical.

BTW, does everyone notice that RC is in WLTLD? If we had gotten HG and colossus in the same city, it would have republic like trade along with the colossus bonus. That is the start of a SSC. It's not so noticable right now, but once some multipliers get in there it will be very evident.

I hired an Elvis in the last turn because if I didn't it would have grown in size and I thought it might riot. Did I do the wrong thing (again)?

    No!

And what do you mean again? If you're referring to the "Vikingcashgate" scandal then you're absolved of all blame because you followed the instructions in the Diplomacy thread exactly and the public gets what the public wants, to horribly misquote The Jam. You're doing a great job and I hope you won't have any hesitation in applying for the President's job in the future. :goodjob:

    Ditto that. :)

I presume from the discussions above that people are keen on the bribery route in the interim, at least for any units / cities on our territory. I presume that the unsaid plan is to keep this up at least until we get a navy built.

I think that this is a good plan whilst the opposition is away from its homeland (soiling our own good shores) and still in despotism - it is cheap, and aids our expansion (depending on whether we can bribe settlers or their most likely poorly-placed cities).

However, what about the longer term? I fully expect to see the indians coming down the coast towards the Legendary City (nee Iron City) in the near future, and we don't know what govt they have or what the bribing costs will be. And we also don't want to waste all our money on bribing the AI - we need it for IPRBs and also to bribe the barbs (which still haven't appeared  ).

Where I'm going with this, is perhaps we should start considering diverting a bit of production to military uses? To facilitate this, I'd like to see roads built to the LC, as well as the iron mined and a barracks built. :)

Or are the masses just wanting it to build settler escorts?

On the subject of bribing boats, I'd like to see the newly built dip heading for Legendary City. Objections?

We want Settler escorts, Archers. If we built more Fillers, we wouldn't need so many escorts (er, not true at the moment, with a loose Viking Horse, drat!). But the public wants expansion cities, such as Legendary City.

Duke, thank you for your analysis. I see what you mean about Dellham, although I am nervous of more Black Dudes. Regarding Civvium, let's move the Warrior to the NE Forest temporarily, and build a Temple (as previously agreed), then a Settler. Ditto Gabba Gabba, move the Warrior NW to Silk and Fortify.

Jayne, it should be clear now that the people love you. And yes, let's send the new Civvium Dip to LC.

In conclusion, we have limited resources. We are building Settlers, Diplomats, Archers, and now also Caravans.

Gary, why do the warriors have to be moved out of the cities?

And DoM, it would have been very nice to have both HG and COL in one city, but would it have been possible?

Nope. I was just pointing out that it didn't currently need the elvi so the new person that the city adds won't require a second one (as some might have been thinking it would). You're doing exactly what should be done; make the elvi before the city goes into disorder rather than after. :goodjob:
