Big difference, a meltdown or nuclear explosion would have been much more devastating. And FYI "a big part of Europe was covered with nuclear material" is hardly an accurate description of what happened. Radioactivity was spread, and deadly concentrations in the immediate area were made, but a far from lethal dose hit the area beyond 100km from the plant.

Same could be said for anything, you must live in a bubble (provided you can prove that bubbles are safe of course).
