I'd prefer to not make a new thread for just posting a video, but I thought this would be something nice for the ID proponents on this forum to chew on.

Summary: Humans have 2 fewer chromosomes than our ape relatives. Why is this? The reason hypothesized by the speaker is that two human chromosomes fused. If this fused pair doesn't exist, then evolution is false. The fused pair is indeed present in human chromosomes.

I dont' have time to watch the video just now, but I have to point out that evolution being 'false' doesn't rest on one small little fact (a fused pair of chromosomes) -- a fact which, if it didn't exist, would bring the entire theory crashing down. There are hundreds of thousands (dare I say bill-ee-ons? :mischief:) of supporting facts. Perhaps this is sloppy summarizing, perhaps the video explains itself on this point; but the statement, as it stands, is very misleading.

This is false. If there wasn't any fused pair they would continue believe in evolution. They would do the same thing they always do with the evidence doesn't match. Make up a story.

ah, more of your usual slander.

let's see if we can drag something of substance out of you this time, given your history of hit&run posting in evo threads:

Could you please FINALLY provide us with a definition of 'kind' and 'evolution'? Please?

If not, if you are still unwilling to debate(!) the issues, it would be polite not to spam falsehoods all across CFC.

I believe Miller has found good evidence for a chromosomal fusion event. When we witness these kind of event happen in the people today they have some bad side effects. With such disadvantages exactly how did this fused pair got fixed in the human line?

prove that this specific fusion had a negative side effect, adn that it 'got fixed'.

Since Miller made this argument a few years ago we now know the 98.5% DNA similarities between man and chimp was very misleading. It could be as low as 70%.

A) you did not answer my question
B) you make another wild ass claim without any backup.

Care to bring something but insinuations to the discussion?

Sigh. I knew you'd drag this out. You were posting in the thread where this creationist lie was dismantled quite viciously. I remember that well.

nice quote from the last link:
With help from the chimp DNA, his team also uncovered several regions of human DNA that apparently contain beneficial genetic changes that spread rapidly among humans within the past 250,000 years. One area contains a gene called FOXP2, which previous work has suggested is involved in acquiring speech.

now care to answer some of the questions?

Well it is simplistically over dramatized. Obviously scientists aren't going to give up evolution over a something they don't fully understand, but it still demonstrates the powerful predictive capabilities of evolution, even if some predictions turn out to not be the case.

Yeah, there could have been a 'deleterious' consequence. Apes are much stronger than humans, for example. Obviously, people predict that it wouldn't have been too outrageous. This fusion event could have occured after a bout of gene duplications (which would make this fusion more likely), and these gene duplications are seemingly what allowed the greater brain capacity we have.

As well, remember that humans switched to a more communal lifestyle (or our ancestors did), and this would have given a temporary survival advantage.
