I have to say that this ''most influential nation'' thing is silly. No one nation has had a single largest contribution to history. America has been a giant superpower for sixty years, but Britain founded America, led the industrial revolution, has changed how the world looks at science and has caused historical events that changed the world.
But Rome, after conquering the British Isles, turned Britain into a civilized province, but more importantly, Rome laid the groundworks of civilized law. You see what I mean?

Although the British and Americans both use a system of common law, rather than civil law, which is largely independent from the Roman tradition, so law may not be the most relevant example of the influence of Rome on those nations.
