Move capital?

Kid say’s hes’s seen two civs move their capital, for reasons other than conquered, he’s an unreliable narrator but ok. Is there currently a way to move it in civ VII?

At the start of each age you get the option to move and rename your capital.

A minor correction - at the moment you can't manually rename your capital. Instead it's renamed to the capital of the civ you're transforming to.

Is move capital op? It upgrades the new capital to a city and leaves the old capital as a city. Seems like a no brainer if you have a viable second city.

Yeah, it definitely feels like a little bit of a cheat to get a free city upgrade.

A lot of things get a specific bonus for the capital, so even with that, it's not a no-brainer to do every time. But if you at all have a second city that might be able to handle it, that feels like something that will be patched out. Either that, or the move capital should probably cost you 1 point.

To be fair at the start of a new age the cost to upgrade to a city is heavily discounted anyway.

I always do that first turn anyways, but the first two tend to cost 200 gold each at transition.
