Hey all,

Just wondering how quickly I should start going up in affinity levels? Started a game on immortal level, I was isolated, a lot of wild lands between me and my neighbour. It's turn 155 and I'm at 2 purity and 1 supremacy, all researched techs.

I was simply researching the techs I needed. Should I be doing more to trigger quests in the early going? Can I even influence the quests I get.

Also, I didn't get any affinity points from digs because I didn't find any? Perhaps more exploration?

Thoughts?

Basically the faster you move up the easier it is for every win condition except contact. Even there it helps in case you get attacked.

You should get a quest chain fairly early that will help affinity. It can be annoying to do sometimes, but it is definitely worth the effort.

The early affinity level bonuses and low level buildings are useful for anyone, but you may want to grab some early unit upgrades sooner rather than later. Also the hybrid unit upgrades come later and by then you can pick up other early affinity technologies in a few turns. So do you grab early ones early or pick them up later?
In my last game I noticed I had been paying over 90 energy a turn for a while and thought I should have grabbed some supremacy a long time ago.

For me, the fastest method of getting affinity is thru techs. Since I always concentrate on science in 90% of my games, I end up just teching all the affinity techs I need at the end of my science related techs.

My suggestion would be to up your science rate in all your cities (also use spies to steal science from other civs), and beeline research on all tech affinities related to whichever victory you want to aim for (I mostly go for supremacy, as those have more culture/science related buildings as far as I've seen).
