Hello, this is Tasunke here, extreme addict of all forms of FFH multiplayer.

This thread will be the location for the "Unofficial Multiplayer League"

Primary goal is to determine level of interest in multiplayer

// on patch N- Bruenor patch.. unless we all make the (same) XML change to correct patch O

-we do comp stomps

-we do Role Playing games

-we do Free-For-All games

-we do Teamer- RP games

-we do regular Teamer- games

//

for our RP games ... we have a few simple rules for all RP games, but then we have two-three tiers of RP games below that

- Strict RP (conventional lore only)

-Loose RP (variant lore)

-Hybrid/Meta RP (make up your own lore)

you're may *always* RP in a conventional manner even if playing in a Loose or Meta RP game ... however Loose and Meta open up your options for RP.

In this thread, everyone interested in MP is given voice, and we may talk about

-scheduling new games

-finding new venues for more stable MP games

-discuss the general RP rules

-addressing player-to-player conflicts

-addressing "rage-quitting"

-addressing rule violations

-addressing "Rp-spirit" violations

Obviously there is no penalty for rage-quitting an FFA or Teamer game.

In an RP game, if you are no longer a major player, and are bored, you may bow out gracefully.

General RP Rules:

No Lair exploration until turn 50 (at least)

No Warfare until turn 75 (at least)

Must give a 1 turn warning before declaring war (if you want to declare war on turn 51, declare at the beginning of turn 50, in an RP style) ... unless you follow the Esus state religion.

General RP spirit guidlines (and religion rules)

For instance, in conventional, you can only found one religion, and much stick to that religion the entire game.

In loose, if you are "conquered" you may join the religion of your conquerer, and may "join their side" even if its sketchy in the lore (Vampires with a Bannor servant). Additionally, all civs may found "two" religions, and may switch to either of those religions (at any time) ... OR they may switch to an un-founded religion if its diplomatically pressured upon them (ie. your conqueror)

In Meta, you can "religion steal" all you want, founding as many as possible. In Meta, you can switch as many times as you want. in Meta, your story doesn't have to be based *at all* on the Lore of FFH, but it has to be fantasy of some sort. In meta, the basic difference from FFA is that you still respect the general RP rules. And, of course, you still play the game in respect to telling a story (of a sort)

Expanded: Strict RP rules

- Good and Evil may not form alliances, even temporary ones.

-Neutrals may form an alliance with any alignment, yet they may NOT form an alliance with BOTH good AND evil civs. (u can either ally with N + G, or N + E)

-Each Civ may found ONLY ONE!! religion. (if there are AI in the game, and everyone has founded one religion, founding more religions is possible if there is unanimous agreement)

A Civ may only switch religions once, and only if diplomatically pressured by a Player-civ of similar alignment. (alignments may attempt to convert each other or neutrals)

If you find a Missionary in a lair, you MAY NOT!!! found a religion with him/her. (unless you are in WAY last place and leagues behind the leaders-> must be unanimous)

If you are good, you may only start wars with Neutral or Evil Civs ... and must give a 5 turn *warning* before declaring war.

If you are neutral, you must give a 5 turn *warning* before declaring war.

If you are evil, you only need a 1 turn warning for declaring war against a Good or Neutral civ ... however you need a 5 turn warning before declaring war vs an Evil civ.

//If you are following Esus, you may declare war whenever

-> IF you are building a Wonder, you must declare the wonder the FIRST TURN you start to build it. add some flavor to the declaration!

// if someone declares, and suddenly you want to build it, you must say that your challenging them for it ... AKA you must declare as well.

**!!** If a good civ is to declare against another good civ ... they MUST be of different religions. Equally, they must be inquisitioning the religion of their soon Rival from their own cities (if the religion has spread to them). They must also raze the Holy City of their soon rival. They must also conquer and inquisition all other cities of their rival.

In this case, the attacker must first declare that they hate the other's religion. They may then give them a "warning for war" at least 5 turns afterwards, and then actually declare war a minimum of 5 turns after that.

The Defender has 2 options ... either declare a HOLY WAR (which means they must equally rid themselves of their rival's religion, and plan to raze their holy city// but not raze any other cities//)
-in this case, the defender may only call upon Civs of their same religion for Aid in the coming war. Random third party civs may still independently interfere of course.

2nd option is for the Defender to refuse Holy War status (can keep the religion + temples of their rival's religion). They may call war allies from any Good or Neutral civilization.

... its only a true HOLY WAR if both attacker AND defender declare religion as the reason for the war. If that is the case, ANY civ from those 2 religions may join the war AT ANY TIME. This means ... lets say Order and Empyrean declare holy war vs each other. Any Order nation may declare war vs any Empyrean nation at *ANY* time after the first declaration of war.

This goes not just for Good Civs, but for any Holy War. The Instigator of the Holy War must declare religious reason (for 5 turns) and then give a war warning (for 5 turns). After the ORIGINAL declaration of war by the instigator ... ANYONE of either religion may declare war against a follower of the other religion with ONLY 1 turn warning.!!!

Additional (strict/loose) RP Rules: (tentative)

if you are Evil and Barbarian, you may declare war *warnings* as early as turn 50.

Evil and Neutral civs may declare war *warnings* as early as turn 75.

Good civs may declare war *warnings as early as turn 95.

Any Civ may declare *holy war* warnings as early as turn 90.

cool! :)

Any mod mod, or just vanilla FFh? I like the idea very much. I am not that good a player of Civ games, but I love them none-the less.

Again, awesome idea, and I would love to join.

I will have to review all of the posts, but arbitrary turn limits on declaration of war seem pointless. Tying them to alignment also seems without merit.

Agreed. I would think that the Bannor would be far more likely do declare war than the Amurites would be.

Bannor would be more likely to declare a holy war than amurites. The Bannor would be *alot* more likely to declare war on the evil Shieam or sinister Amurites ... than the Bannor declaring war on the Elohim for instance.

The bannor wouldn't be likely to declare war on a good civ unless all other evil civs had been vanquished ... and only if the good civ wasn't following the Order.

Hence, the no Good vs Good rule. Just think about it ... mull it over in your mind a bit.

I'm not by any means saying that these rules *must* be final, or the be all end all ... just a guideline for any rules we end up making.

And ... also I feel that *guidlines* should be in place a lot more than strict rules ...

but that there should be a lot of such guidelines (for strict RP) ;)

This thread is primarily a means to determine interest in MP games.

I would be interested, but not in marathon sessions like the ones that have been running on Saturdays. I could go for a continuing game of maybe a one or two hour session a week.

Yea, use patch n.

And you can find me anytime on weekends generally (and sometimes elsewhere)

Look for me on #Erebus, or just PM me (when ur free for an MP game)

and @ McWill, I wouldn't mind having scheduled 2 hour sessions for old games. Since the game won't be updating any more (or very frequently) we can just keep using patch N almost indefinitely. (So that we won't have to worry about old games becoming obsolete)

Now, if a new patch comes out that is a great improvement over N (and has proven to be less bug-ridden and less OOS ridden) ... then we can finish up any current games we have going and then patch after the fact.

So yea ... just find me when ya can ... and I'll try to be here *especially* on weekends for larger games. Once we get a rhythm going I'll make a new post for other people to join our rhythm.

I would be interested in joining a rp game, and maybe comp stomps.

I'd prefer to use Patch P, if/when it ever comes out...

A comp stomp is a couple of humans vs a couple of AI with the sole purpose of wiping out the AI, just for fun.

Probably voted a little weirdly, multiple options. RP tops it mostly :)

I was just thinking the other day I ought to check back, see if I have time for a FFH game sometime (would only be Fridays/Saturdays really, unless we somehow got a really serious/committed schedule where like 2 hours a night works some other time. But Fridays/Saturdays can still work sometimes for me so I just might be there as a default.)

I've not been a fan of just straight out competitive FFA - unit spam and so on. Always had fun in RP games and would continue to do so, championing the civ of the week I think. Though if it came down to everyone else in a FFA I'd join/try to hold my own anyway in the end, I tend to concede to what the crowd would want so long as a game is going and more players the better.

Comp Stomps/interesting teamers are all right, I do kind of like setting up crazy barbarian/AI settings to fight against, but mostly I'd go with something RP themed anyway. Still I could be convinced otherwise.

One thing not mentioned, is that after a while in the past I kinda come down strongly in favor of no tech trading for game settings - but I know that's by no means a majority, and doesn't really prevent some folks (Malakim, Calabim, ;)) from still just taking a huge tech lead down one path, and it leads to slowness getting to late game stuff. But if we're coming up with stricter/more solid RP rules I could certainly see some revised tech trading ideas keeping things fun - we don't want all the Good/Neutral civs just sharing tech as happened a lot in the past and leaving evil civs in a hole. If folks leave/AI show up that also really frustrates me regarding tech trading - but I'm sure we could come up with something that works.

The traditional lair exploration/war dec rules I'm very much still a fan of (IF it's RP of course) and I think we had discussion on fair use of a couple of worldspells in the past too (encourage Illians, Calabim to go early, Ljos to not use theirs to conquer cities, and as for Esus + Svart/Sidar...well just be reasonable)

Anyway, I'll be around sometime, thanks for the thread here Tasunke, nice work.

I think I could have great fun with team game or free for all, RP or no-RP. Would like to try a no-RP game but my biggest problem is that all my time is taken up by my wife.

Abandon hope all ye who enter here.

I have to wait for my children growing and my wife reaching menopause.
Years and years !
but there are compensations. :D

So Tasunke, any chance you want to setup a good versus evil pbem team game with always war?
