Variant was to raise lux to 50% for 10 turns. 30% makes every citizen happy, so I'll leave it there...you can't have more than every citizen happy, so 50% is pointless (as is 30%, but oh well).

Arr! frickin' pirate ship sinks one of our Galleons, empty though.
    Start building some libraries.

This is a bit disorienting. The English have cities all over the map, so a coordinated strike will take lots of planning. We have an average military compared to them. The attack cannot happen within my turnset unless I can get the Berserker armies to main English continent.

Mendes is a big flip risk, I am going to move units out of there.

    out of nowhere, this happens

Byzantines capture unguarded edfu with a knight, but I have 2 elite Berserks standing outside to take it right back.

This is a blessing in disguise. We can take the Byzantines out pretty quickly based on our current troop locations, then attack England when we have factories running producing tons of Berserkers.

    Brusa razed.
    Ancyra captured.

sign MA with France vs. Byzantines for 150 gold and world map.
Heraclea razed. I lose 3 berserkers out of 6 needed to take down a size 10 city with 3 rifle defenders.

Sorry I wrote a lot of notes here, but they are important things:
    - I forgot to lower the lux rate back to 0%. Next player change this.
    - I have 3 Galleons fortified by an island that has 2 Byzantine towns on it. Keep them fortified. There is a privateer nearby that we have to hope won't sink a Galleon. On the next turn we can attack.
    - Our best cities are producing Frigates. We absolutely need escourts for our Galleons.
    - a skeletal railroad system between cities is now up, so defense on the mainland shouldn't be difficult.
    - There are units and ships stationed all across the map. Try to familiarize yourself with them in case you need them.
    - England doesn't have coal at the moment, but France will probably sell them some if they can secure one of the two coals in Byzantine territory. If possible, we should build cities on the coal to claim them, but that might be difficult.
    - In core cities build factories and start cranking out tons of ships and berserkers.
    - Berserkers don't seem all that great vs. rifles insize 7+ cities. Try to have 8 or so attackers.
    - I'm not sure whether or not we should trade Industrialization around unless we can get some great trades out of it. We need Military Tradition soon, so we can build the Military Academy and start building armies ourselves.
    - We're going for conquest victory. England next, France last.
    - I have kept a few small byzantine towns, but most from here out should be razed.
    - For the variant, when Theodora is gone we must revolt. We need to trade for Communism so we can switch to it. Since we can't research Replaceable Parts, our tech tree is nearing the end. Republic is hardly needed for additional research.
    - don't research Replaceable Parts

Very interesting indeed. If we can get rid of Byz we can then concentrate, with the wifes help, the elimination of Elizabeth. Then it will be a dogfight down the stretch with the wife for the distribution of assets, AKA the world. Also on the tech tree, if the game lasts can we get aircraft? Carriers with bombers could certainly be useful. Agree on miltrad for more armies to rape and pillage.

I'm sorry to do this after a couple days already, but I'm going to have to beg off and ask for a delay/swap/skip. Don't foresee time for this before Friday at the earliest.

Sorry, work has just been beating me up this week. :(

I tried to run C3C last night but it appears that I am having issues with my disc :( I can see a large scratch on it and I think that's the problem as no amount of cleaning is fixing the problem. I really wish Firaxis/Atari allowed users to make backup copies of the damn disc  Now I have to buy a new one, probably not till the weekend. Sorry.

OK, my first thought is we were pretty much loaded for bear when Theo declared. Buys Lizzy a bit of time, but not much.

Second, I hope I don’t finish off Theo in my turns b/c I don’t really agree with the Commie path. We’re going to shut off research to not be able to cash rush? Seems a bit wacky to me, personally. I say stick with Rep and just use the money to rush some armies and other things as we see fit. Don’t really have time to throw this out for discussion if I’m going to get my turns done, which comes back to the first part of this paragraph. I’ll still try to find a deal for the tech though.

In a combinbation of two deals, we are giving Liz spices, wines, furs, and Ivory, for a total of 76gpt. Cancel the deals. Now send her salt, spices, silks, WM and 85 gpt for Nationalism. Stupid overvalued tech. We are also giving Joan 4 luxes and salt for some Dyes. The dyes are meaningless since we have our slider set at 30% and there isn’t an unhappy face to be found. Cancel that one as well. Pay the steep price of 5 luxes, salt, WM, 77gpt, and 397g to get Comm, but also get MT while I’m at it. OK, so I mortgaged the research we want to shut off, but got the techs we wanted. Turn off luxes, and bump research back up. Now getting INd in 6 turns (less than when I started, I think), making 57gpt, and I’m gonna find somewhere to start the MA. That place is Stockholm, at a net of 23spt. Be even better once we can get a factory.

One last note for whomever played before. We currently have two armies in galleons that are at risk of a nearby privateer. I like to try to ship my troops in reg boats, with an empty vet or two as escort. That way, if the stack gets attacked, the empty vets will defend rather than the boats loaded with troops, especially armies.

IT – Pruvateer attacks, but we win, losing 2hp.

1380 AD (1) – A bunch of WLTKD end. *shrug* A library finshes – have to find any other research builds and change them. Army takes and razes Trebizond, losing 4 hp. Same fate for Naissus, except we only lose 2hp.

IT – Byz frigate sinks ours.

1385 AD (2) – Ready to attack Marseilles but decide to gamble the French will soften it up w/o actually taking it.

1390 AD (3) – Elite victory in Marseilles makes up for the vet lost when Erik Bloodaxe arrives at the scene. :D Marseilles burns. Varna gets added to the list.

IT – Frigate successfully defends. Liz demands coal. I grudgingly concede.

1395 AD (4) – Ind comes in, start Corp. Send Ind to French for Dyes, Wm, Econ, and 381g. Change Stockholm to factory and rush it.

1400 AD (5) – Factory complete, Erik Bloodaxe strolls into Stockholm and gets the MA up and running. Lose three zerks at Adrianople before I realize it’s on a hill. :wallbash: Lose two zerks and nearly an army, still can’t capture Smyrna.

Unfortunately, I’m going to have to stop here. I already have to be up for work in 5 hours, and after a long day tomorrow, am going straight down the Cape for a wedding Saturday, and have 13 hrs on Sunday. The long and short of it is that I won’t be able to play anymore before Monday. I apologize MP, but between the rails and the war, the turns are just taking too long. Hopefully something is better than nothing. If it is still sitting here somehow on Monday, then I’ll pick it back up.

The armies are making good progress, but the zerks are fighting some bloody battles.
The research is currently off, if it remains that way, you should be able to rush an army every fourth turn or so. Otherwise, Stockholm can build one every tenth turn.
Still recommend sticking with Republic, if only for cash rushing.
Requiring a revolt does not mean we have to change govts.....
Have a few factories going in bigger cities, once they complete they can just churn zerks out.
Would recommend railing and irrigating corrupt cities and hiring as many taxmen as possible. Will also help with unit support.
War is kind of at a regroup point, not my best hand off ever Gram, but it evens out with the last one. :D

This game has gotten pretty slow. I am making an "executive decision" to play some turns, probably more than 10 to move this one forward. I'll play until I finish off the Byzantines, and get us into some war position vs. England.

I think it's a pretty fun game, but the prospects of making a landing in England sounds difficult. I probably should've disabled the upgrade path for Berserkers so that we could research RP and beyond, and more importantly, be able to see the Rubber so we could pillage it. When I planned this game, I assumed that if the AI's got Infantry or better defenders, we could pillage them down to rifles, which Berserkers are still good/even against. Not being able to see this resource to pillage it adds another level of difficulty that I didn't intend, and to me makes the game less desirable to play.

I'll get this tomorrow, so if anyone objects, or wants to play some turns, just post here before then.

I just looked at the save. The AI's are no closer to RP than we are. It will probablye be 30 turns or so before they have it, plenty of time to take out the Byzantines and get to stompin'.

In one grumpy old man AW we just pillaged all the tiles that could have rubber. Explorers under a berserk army could cut a wide swath. Also we would want to disconnect the capital. Knocking out the cities that are near rubber would certainly help too.

Science is off, which is good. I'll continue leaving it off and let England and France do their own research, then we can research for cheaper.
