multiple unit graphics

Is it possible to get the grapics for an individual in a unit to pick from a selection in a similar way that unit sounds work? Thus you could have a few similar graphics and one of these would be picked each time a unit is built.

I'm not sure to understand what you mean, but you can control the number of units you want and the graphics you want to use... Have a look in the "creation and customization" forum some players have already change that...

Basically my motivation is thus. Only 90% of the population of the UK are caucasion, so when I build Infantry Units I want it to throw in one in ten of them as dark skinned. If you assign new sounds to a unit, you can add -001, -002, etc and it picks one randomly, I just wondered if anything similar was possible with unit graphics.

No, what your asking is not possible in vanilla Civ4 and would take atleast sdk modding.
