Music cutting out??

I've played Civ 5 for over 1,000 hours with no issues, but Beyond Earth has an issue where the music keeps stopping, with pops and clicks added.

My computer is plenty powerful enough (i74790K @ 4.6GHz, NVidia 980 gpu, 32 GB RAM)

Running Win Pro 8.1, base BE with Exoplanets map pack, no mods

Any suggestions?

edit: seems to happen most often on the AI turn, but not always
