my BACKPIECE tattoo

Soul Warrior: Good luck on your journey. I hope you have found a good guy to do your ink. There are lots of people out there who can operate a needle but not all of them are artists. But you probably know that already.

How very very cool

finally, after too many weeks of forced delays (RL can be a pain sometimes)guess who is getting the sketch finished this thursday?

stay tuned thursday night for a non tattooed prelude to my saga!
where you shall see my entire back, painted blue in rough lines, prior to tattooing.

it will look something like a children's "fill in the colouring book"
or like this:

just all over my back.

the needlework itself is scheduled for next thursday (11am till we drop) in which we will tweak the sketch (in a minor way) to fit snugly onto my back, and do the linework.

Ram - still thinking about how to answer your question.
tough call.

at a glance i would say this is sort of a right of passage for me.
i happen to need harsh events to mark out periods of my life.
by the time i get this done (my guess is 4-6 months) i should get a grip on what it is im after.

regarding the symbology of the elements...
it is less about the "fiery" dragon with the "watery" stream and the "rock garden" and more about the design itself as a complete piece of art.
as a whole it will, to me, encapsulate what I am these days, where i came from and where i want to be going (reaching high for the sky)

again, it is very hard for me to translate what this means to me, but it is deeper than a mere fashion statement (which this obviously not), and it (the process, the artwork, the trauma) will hopefully help bury some of the ghosts haunting me.

and finally, this thursdays results:

* notice this is still just ink and felt pen on my skin.
no needle work done yet.
* this is also still in rough detail.
during this week my tattoo guy will fine tune it.

this thursday is DDay.
i will finalize the design and get the line work done.

I have no problem with you getting a tatoo. But be careful, because a dirty needle could give you STD.

INDEED.
i ALWAYS get tattooed where i know the sanitary conditions.
that is a risk i am UNWILLING to take.

if the place is not spotless i would never have anything done there.

good advice to anyone. anywhere.

So whats the final price on a piece like that?
lets see....

at 100$ US per hour, i would estimate this to be around 1000US$.
10 hours in total
(i believe it will be 3 hours for the line work alone, which is basically just framing it out) and another 7 for the shading.

mind you, this tattoo, like all the others i have is in black and white.

if i wanted this to be a full colour one.
that would about double or treble the cost AND time,
driving it up to the 2500$ US hood.

here we go!

yesterday i had the outlines done.

3+ hours of screaming and yelling, cursing everyone and his wife, produced this.

now all i have to do is fill in the lines, hoping the tattoo artist doesnt spill over the line.

picture was taken 3 hours after the deed, so some swelling might be visible.

v cool :goodjob:

Good luck to you. I have better uses for $1000 though.

Sorry if you insulted... but Omg that looks rubbish. It's like you've taken the design of one of those crappy dragon shirts everybody used to wear a couple of years ago.

Very very lame.
