My best start ever

Hello,

This start, on noble, pangea, generally normal settings gave me such a huge tech lead early that it was ridiculous.

To put things in context, at the appropriate stage horse spawned one square west of London and a gold resource spawned one square west of the gems.

Result huge amounts of gold that drove 80 per cent research throughout the game, even with my usual dodgy decision making in the middle ages, I was the tech leader by miles and I'm still 7-8 techs in front of some of my rivals.

Any feedback on what you think of this start would be appreciated. I've enclosed teh original save in case you fancy playing it.

Cheers

the save -> game seems to be vanilla so it doesn't really belong to here...

but on my current game with the babylonians, i too got a ridiculously good start with two gold, two mais and iron in capitals fat cross :D

I don't know why but I always have a ridiculously great start with Egypt, funny isn't it?

ty, I'll remove it.

Just out of curiosity, why is that?

LOL since when? I've been here since Jan 2001 and not ever known people not to be able to put quotes in their sigs :crazyeye:

Your best start ever was simply starting as Elizabeth? You know you can choose that, right? ;)

(it'd help if you showed a shot of your starting location is my sarcastic point :p)

Oops wrongs screen shot, corrected now...

Thanks for the rapier wit

Yes I know I can choose the Civ, but I like financial/phil leaders and redcoats

:)

Plus I'm rubbish and currently honing my tactics before I try someone else..

The screenshot has espionage in it... Pretty sure vanilla didn't have that.

edit: Why, oh why haven't you built a lighthouse in that city yet? It's practically begging for one.

It's also a prime candidate for the Moai statues.

Wow, look at all those yummy water tiles! and you're financial!
Build yourself a lighthouse!

technically, you never promised the screen, you were asked for it

To clarify, quotes are allowed in sigs, but quote tags [quote][/quote] are not allowed. Spoiler tags are also not allowed.

Sorry for the OT.

Yeah, thats odd, somewhat. I'm pretty sure that BtS saves have the ending *.CivBeyondSwordSave and this save has a *.Civ4SavedGame which IIRC is for civ vanilla.

Check this one.

:woohoo:

Good, but not perfect. If you would have settled one tile southwest, Uruk would have lost the worthless inland sea and 2 rivertiles but gained 7 rivertiles and another gem resource.

True, but the empty square to the NE of the city is almost certainly a hidden resource of some type. Moving the city SW would cause you to lose access to it.

My best start will be when the other leaders join a cult and suicide themselves over a comet. :)
