Due to the fact we have been deprived of a Civilization ion C3C I have taken it upon myself to mod us in

So far Ive got the following

Leader: John Howard (other options are Hawke or Menzies)

Favourite goverment: Democracy

Shunned Goverment: Communism

City Names: Ive got 2 from every state/Territory

Culture group: European

Bonus: Industrious and Agricultural (an option would be Commercial and Industrious)

Ive got 6 Miltary eaders and 5 Scientists

I havent got a UU yet Im thinking either Australian Infantry (Infantry with an extra point of defence) Light Horse (Cavalary wih an extra point of Attack)

You know, I was just thinking of a thread like this myself. Amazing! My thoughts were to have Menzies as PM. Industrious and Agricultural are good. Military unit I also thought Light Horse, or perhaps ANZAC infantry (to give the Kiwi's something to cheer about too).
For city names, I would run through the capitals first, starting with Canberra, then going down in order of size from Sydney. Then I would add in cities on a basis of size, so Newcastle, Cairns, Geelong, and possibly even Ballarat would all get in before Launceston, for example.
Out of interest, who are the military and science leaders?

John Howard ? You mean the guy who's leading the country right now ?

That choice is way too political. You should choose a more historical leader. Well... since Australia is a brand new country, I think Robert Gordon Menzies is the best choice.

About the favourite Government, I would say "Monarchy". After all, Australia recently expressed itself against democracy in a referendum. The commonwealth gives to Australia the status of a constitutionnal monarchy. Don't panic anyway, that story of favourite and shunned government seems not very useful.

In your city names list, try to put the city in their order of foundation, if possible. Even if Canberra is the capital city, I think it's better to put Sydney as the first city. Since I'm not a specialist (I'm not australian), here's my proposal :

Sydney, Melbourne, Newcastle, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Cairns, Canberra, Hobarth, Darwin, Wollongong, Geelong, Townsville, Alice Spring, Launceston, Wodonga, Toowoomba, Ballarat, Shoalhaven, Rochampton, Mackay, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Bendigo, Albury.

About the cultural group, the best would be aborigenes ! Since it's not a civ3 option, maybe the best choice is asian. I don't know.

About the special unit, I would propose the Rangers, a kind of infantry which could move faster (two tiles/turn instead of one).

this is scary

I was actually looking at your map Earth map Marla, and was going to use it as part of the mod

By the way do you have any plans to update the map with the resources from Conquests? ie Volcanos etc

Menzies is probably the best choice

Marla_Singer - you are probably right. Menzies would be more historically significant, as our longest serving PM. The historical order of foundation would make much more sense - although I still think Canberra should be first. Three other points from a 'local' perspective though...

1) While constitutionally we have a monarchy, the government operates under one of the most democratic systems in the world... the queen is a figurhead, nothing more.
2) Our cultural group should be European, much in the same way I think the US should be in Civ 3.
3) The Light Horse or Anzacs would be far more historically relevant, in terms of havng played part in Australian military conflicts.

Australia is in Conquests. They're called the English and the leader is Queen Elizabeth.

Actually, I haven't bought Conquests already... However, there are better world maps now... mine is two years old !! Well, I'm planning to get Conquests cause I'd like to create real scenarios. I would love to create a scenario of Europe in 1900.

Well, you're probably right Margim about The Light Horse or Anzacs. I'm not an australian expert. However, Americans aren't considered as "european" in Civ3, they're considered to belong to the american cultural group. I think it's better this way since America - as Australia - is far from Europe.

Oh and about democracy, I'm not saying Australia isn't democratic but if we put it as favourite government for each country it doesn't mean anything anymore. Moreover, a country with a queen on its banknotes could have as favourite government Monarchy. However we won't have an argument about that, the AI don't care that much about favourite and shunned government. The AI would choose to put the country under a democracy one it will discover it. :)

Monarchy in Civ3 really represents an Absolute Monarchy ie like most of europe had during the Middle ages. A consitutional monarchy is closer to Democracy

The other option for a Unique unit could be the SAS type unit a Paratrooper with an extra movement......

Thats pretty unique, I dont think theres Parachute Unique unit

Great  ;)

John Howard (other options are Hawke or Menzies)
Howard??? Edmund Barton or Robert Menzies would be better.

Favourite goverment: Democracy
Good.

Shunned Goverment: Communism
Fits well.

Bonus: Industrious and Agricultural (an option would be Commercial and Industrious)
Industrious and Agricultural are best.

The Infantry. Could probably call it a Digger (more Australian than Anzac as Anzacs also include New Zealand).

Ooh, thems fightin' words  :p :D

Theres an Anzac infantry unit in the WW2 Pacfic Conquest

I might use that

hmm now how do I port it across to my Aus Civilization

ANZAC Troops would be my UU. I've read about them a while ago and I just really respect the guys. They would have 1 extra defence because of Gallipoli. 6/11/1. That'd be well hard to defeat until you had tanks at least, or loads of artillery.

Please not Howard, I would prefer Barton or maybe Menzies

Favourite goverment: Democracy

Shunned Goverment: Communism
Going by the last referendum I would say this should be Favourite government Monarchy and Shunned government Republic ;)

I think the idea that somebody else mentioned of a Digger unit would be great, though I do also like the Light Horse idea.

I reckon light horse for special unit. Why include ANZAC when it involves people who can't even make a world cup final? Industrious and Agricultural sound good appart from the fact that the only thing Aus is known for in the 'Agricultural business' recently is the fact that we chuck sheep in a mincer to get em out of a room which has half a metre of sh*t on the floor! Anyway I reckon Euro architecture aswell as it might be a bit off but its not like anything is even remotely close. Democracy for prefered because republic we shunned and our 'Ruling Monarch' as such lives thousands of miles away and doesn't even have control in her own country! One last thing, Menzies for leader as Johnnie has a monobrow and therefore cannot lead the country.

Unique Unit: Swarms of flies that follow you everywhere during summer. DAMN FLIES.

They have a special 'attach' ability which enables them to latch onto a target unit undetected. After a few turns the unit notices them but by then it is to late, and the flies have become a swarm. If particularly unlucky the flies will be 'Sand Flies' or not actualy even flies but isnted mozzies, if this is the case and the bug is already attached securely, the target unit starts losing hit points at an increasingly fast rate. This all happens until the advance 'Moreteen' is discovered which of course kills the flies/mozzies as soon as they are detected.

The digger could also have the ability to build forts, to represent the gallipoli trench work that they did under heavy fire on the beach. Otherwise, it looks good.

Yeah, if it goes with digger or ANZAC it should be fast or just be able to run away some how to represent the whole running away at Gallipoli thing. Australians can run away like knowone else!

Ok Ive mucked around with it abit

The Anzac Infantry is Unit Icon 90

As I dont have a picture of Menzies Ive left the leader head for the civ I replaced (in this case it was the Mayas)
