My first diety win raised these questions

I wanted to comment on the original questions but I have not read all the responses.

First, I thought Iroquois were a ptw civ. So this means you have civ 3 gold which includes ptw? That would have most of the patches in it.

Next, to compete with the civ on early expansion build rates, you need to have enough food to get pop growthn 1 turn or 2 turns with little or no additional food while having a granary. That is, 10 food is 1 pop point so 5 food will give you 1 pop in a turn and 4 turns is 2 pop points. The ai gets cheaper build costs but the AI will rarely build a granary.

Razing cities: Sometimes, their culture is so much higher that flips will happen. There are some approaches to dealing with this such as bombarding the city to a size one before taking it or starving it down after you have quelled resistance or keeping one defensive unit inside and having 2 offensive units fortified outside to retake the city/cities. Sometimes, I will fortify units in the field if I have a high chance of flips and keep a single unit inside. This slows down the progress.

The AI does have an attitude change toward you if you are competing with that civ on a certain type of victory. So if you have a high culture and the AI is trying to win cultural victory then they will become annoyed with you.

The UN vote is influenced by war alliances and trade deals. To win a UN vote after razing, you need to keep the world in perpetual war and give away luxaries to your allies while fighting the civ that competes with you for a UN vote. Remeber that the AI will probably not ask for a UN vote if it thinks it can not win.

There is a setting to renegotiate trade deals. hit ctl p.
