My Game's Been Crashing

Here's the deal: I loaded my game after a while, and when I try to play the game crashes, sometimes bringing the computer down with it. Last I played this didn't happen.

I believe the last times I loaded CivIV on I downloaded the patch. This is a problem, since my internet isn't working right now. Know any way to get around this? Thanks.

Interesting thought here. If I purchase BtS and install it, will it work? My guess is it has a patch which would update the original game and I could play it.

I do not recommended spending the coins for BtS just to get vanilla to run. You'll probably like BtS but keep in mind it has also been patched and the final, most playable version is the unofficial 3.13 on these forums.
Can you borrow an internet connection at school or work to download the 1.74 vanilla patch to a USB flash drive? If so, uninstall the game, clean up any folders or cache, then do a clean installation and patch.
